  • oh good, i'm so pleased that this thread has descended into a rant about the unfairness of the ticket allocation procedures.

re. the male-only thing, that's what it said in the BC email that the info came in- I couldn't find any ref to gender requirements in the Olympics sign-up and info pages.
totes agree on the outrage if it is men only. I've emailed to ask but not expecting a reply...

  • Definitely interested in the response. I can't imagine sharing this if they're really accepting only male cyclists. Disgusting.

  • Maybe they've already got enough ladies signed up to make it 50:50?

Lets see what they have to say for themselves...lets not assume the worst.

  • Sorry, but seeing "male only" with no explanation is worth getting your dander up for.

  • 'upper body strength'

    #justsayin

  • It'll make a great dogging venue
    Properlolz

All in true british tradition!!! I love Brits, you guyz make me smile

You fucking muppet do you really think we're just being whingeing poms or whatever? They spent 14bn quid having told us it was going to be four, um maybe nine. We told them so.

NO ONE WANTS THE OLYMPICS EXCEPT CHILDREN AND CUNTS. Which one are you?

  • There are plenty of ethically and legally justifiable reasons to say male only. Lets see what they have to say.

They might not be able to explain before the ceremony due to the secrecy around the event.

  • ^^ Children, cunts and people who have been to olympics in other cities. It fucking rocks. You're hard pushed to find residents of olympic cities who said it wasn't an awesome memorable experience too.

Anyway...lets stop hijacking Katie's thread. Anybody with their knickers in a twist about it being male only should probably contact them and ask for an explanation. Anybody with their knickers in a twist over the olympics being here should leave the country for a few weeks much like I am doing (sadly).

  • Cycling - one of the few sports (with athletics) where the Olympics are a big event in the sport's calendar and therefore one of the few sports that should be there.

No it isn't, most pros and continental fans would consdider a one day classic win, tdf stage and world champs far more important ...and these events happen annually.

It is however a rare opportunity for track cyclists to gain recognition, but this is mainly because their branch of our sport is nowhere near as large as the road scene and has very few opportunities for national or international fame and associated rewards....

Not wishing to take anything away from Olympic track cycling medallists but their specialist disciplines are nowhere near as competitive as road cycling.

  • Its cos men are the best at everyting innit.

  • Oh i'm in the fuck off and why do I have to loose glebe land to venues?

  • And building work thats years late and noisy from 7 in the morning till 7 at night and the noise of the silent generators all night.

  • er, where do they say no women?

Just wondering, because I would find it truly outrageous if they really did only want men.

Sorry, but seeing "male only" with no explanation is worth getting your dander up for.

    Why?

They asking for volunteers in a ceremony, it's choreographed.

Maybe they're re-enacting 300 spartans or something, who cares.

  • Really? You see no reason whatsoever why a group of people being excluded completely from something might cause suspicion?

  • Do you feel this offended by all the women-only events that get organised?

  • or theyve filled their female quota?

  • personally, if i do this, i hope there are lots of women

  • personally, if i do this, i hope there are lots of women

    You single again?

  • ive been single for ages now

  • Really? You see no reason whatsoever why a group of people being excluded completely from something might cause suspicion?

Have you considered the possibility that, for whatever reason, it's because they aren't applicable?

It's for a *choreographed *part of the ceremonies, it's not a prize. Think of it like a play, you wouldn't be outraged if only men were cast for a production of 12 angry men would you?

I'm assuming, not unreasonably I think, that it's some artistic choice, and not just because there's some strength involved.

  • ive been single for ages now

Will be over later for a lick.

  • So no comment about the biggest show on Earth.............

  • Of the auditions which have already taken place women seem to have outnumbered men by 8 to 1.

Looks like they're just trying to achieve parity, not exclude.

Ads placed 3 weeks ago addressed the shortage of male volunteers.

Doesn't stop anyone from applying though.

  • good, and unusual!, to know.

thanks, it's probably one of the few times there has been a cycling event that wasn't a sausage party. I'm actually pleased to the point of welling up.
