  • Not yet, just trying to work out my finances for this month.

  • How much is it going to be, approx? If you will excuse a rude question!

  • Well, the Max Power, in it's most basic form is 490 Euros, then of course everything else on top.

So, I'm days away from ordering it now, final few decisions to make.

Firstly the frame, I need to decide what colour. I'm tempted to go anodized to some bright colour, but I think it would better to go black anodized, and then go with colour for the parts.

The only problem is that the forks are steel, so can only be powdercoated, it might look a little strange to have the frame anodized, and the fork powdercoated. So I could leave it raw, or powdercoat both. But I don't really like the matt look.

    Parts:

I really like the look of the Middleburn RS8 cranks, I guess I'll just go with the uno ones, and leave a bashguard.

    Probably Hope BB

Then for hubs, I do like the look of the Hope Pro 2 Evos, 36 hole

Not sure what rims as yet.

For brakes I'm going to go dual disk, probably Avid BB7s

    Headset, maybe Hope as well.

    Flat bars.

  • I like the look of those hope hubs. Do they have even offset on the flanges?

  • Not sure.

  • Yes to equidistant flanges, no dishing necessary on a hope trials wheel build.

    Yes to flat bars.

    And yes anodize; anodize green.

  • Just ordered the frame, forks and disk protectors from Max Power.

    Frame anodised black
    Forks powerdercoat matt black
    Disk protectors anodised blue.

  • All the hope stuff is ordered too, and Salsa Delgado Race rims.

  • Weight, price, hole count?

  • Ordered the BB7s from Hong Kong:

Also decided on spoke pattern and spokes, I'm going with 3x Sapim Strongs.

  • Why the Salsas out of interest John? 60g weight save over disk 719s? Wider? I'd be interested in seeing how they hold up compared to a 719 (flatter/wider profile versus thinner/taller profile), the materials and manufacture process for both rims seems pretty much identical.

  • Honestly hadn't considered them, but seeing them I'd make the same choice, weight saving and extra width.

  • For the seatpost I'm debating between:

    Thompson Elite

    or Hope Eternity

Or the more budget On-One Twelfty

  • No, I'm going to be sensible, rather than waste money on bits which add no real function but just look nice, so I'll stick to cheaper stuff for the seatpost/stem/bars.

  • weight saving and extra width.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how that stands up to abuse (more surface area in your rim profile versus structural rigidity of a smaller profile and how that affects the yield/failure).

As long as the seatpost, stem and bars are relatively light, you can't go wrong (unless you're planning on stair dropping/downhill racing when not playing polo).

The one thing I look for in a polo seatpost is a one-piece shaft/head. I've had too many come unbonded (though thankfully not catastrophically) in the past.*

  • use a hope post - the stronger the better

  • thomsons are awesome.

Don't forget to ask Cyclis for quotes on stuff. I can usually beat most prices (but can't get hope / thomson etc sadly)

Well I do like the look of the Hope one, a really interesting design, but it's really hard to justify £80 for a seatpost, especially when I've already spent a small fortune on this bike.

  • I should probably clarify that - I mean shaft and the cradle, like the Thomsons. Just got one of these, seems nicely made, butted shaft (thicker walled in the fore/aft axis), not too weighty.

  • After the sheffield tournament. Im not running any seatpost that isnt pivotal.

And just buy cheap alu flat bars, and stem. Sjs > sort by price > low to high

    Easy

  • Good point Max. Found this on CRC, pivotal, but also pretty light.

    or this

    with this in 31.6

  • BBB skyscraper seatpost is inline and one piece construction with fore/aft. Cheap. Available in all sizes, just cut it down if it's too long.

Salsa Gordo rim is great. Mine are in impressive condition after 6 months use. They are quality rims.

  • Pretty much everything ordered now, just tyres (probably Marathon Racer) and a stem.

I went for the pivotal saddle and seatpost above
