Some Surly front disc hubs are solid axle ("new" hubs not the new "ultra new" hubs).
Yes. Thanks for that, thats what I am looking for, with an axle with track nuts. Suppose I'd have to get the wheel built up? Cant seem to find a complete one.

Why do you want track nuts kev?

We sell 9mm and 10mm axles from weldtite. They come with cones and lockrings too. Te surly hubs suggested are your best bet without 'trying stuff out'. Just buil them onto an A319 and you're done! BC should do you a deal non?

That echo trials front hub sounds interesting Emyr have you got a link?

there's nothing stopping you replacing the axle with a solid & nutted one aftermarket...
Yeah I have one on my current front wheel. Couldnt really have a QR lever thing in polo. Or could you?
There are cleat adapters available for wht you seek but findin them in the uk is difficult, plus, they add a good 5mm to your sole thickness and the clear is no longer recessed meaning you're damaging it when walking...
I understand it wont be recessed, the current spd-sl's i have are unwalkable. Do you have a brand / model for these type of cleats?

I just meant one of those solid axles -

I have an Echo TR Disc front hub which uses allen-bolts into each side of the axle. It's a pain in the arse because there's no way to stop the axle turning as you try to undo the second side. 129g though.

Yes.
I built mine onto a Mavic XC717Disc, 2cross disc side and 3 cross on the other, 262mm spokes both sides :-)

Is there something in Chobham that will speed up my wheel building?

I have a qr skewer on my polo bike (front wheel, being fixed/free I can't have a qr on back), replaced the lever with an Allen key skewer I had lying around, but played for long enough with an actual lever, as long as you get it flush and in line with your forks I don't think there's a problem with qr levers. Some people tape them to the forks just to be on the safe side.
Defo don't think it's worth building a new wheel just to get rid of it!

You think sl cleats are already unwalkable? Imagine them with an extra cm of metal at the bottom, its like a reverse high heel... If you are thinking for polo, I wouldn't bother. Even those heavy crappy muddy fox (circa £20) mtb shoes from sports direct would be better.
Or shop around you'll probably be able to fine some alright mtb shoes for around £35 (decathlon?)... Much better use of money than the new wheel.
Nice Chobham joke btw! :)

On the subject of axles... Anyone know where I can get a 10mm axle for my front Hope Pro 2 Evo?
I've converted the hub to 10mm running a Superstar QR but really wanna go with an axle that'll take M8 bolts just like the rear hub...

Probably gonna get another front disc wheel for a tourer I am building up, but I might use my current (QR, allen key skewer'd) front disc wheel on that and just get a new, solid axle front wheel for my polo bike. The current one I have with the QR hub is a bit mashed up, play always come back into the hub, moving around the wheel slightly, messing up alignment in the caliper. I've cleaned out the bearings and checked tightness with the locking washers (or whatever they're called) and it's fine for a few weeks but then seems to get messy again. Replacing the bearings perhaps might help? The wheel has seen a good bit of polo and touring now at this stage. The solid axle hub just seems a bit sturdier in my mind's eye.
I have some road shoes that arent being used that much any more, was thinking I'd put them to use playing polo. Hardly gonna be walking around much while playing at throw ins.

There is a conversion kit for Hope Pro II which converts the front to solid axle. Gabes had it on his bike.

You'd think so, Hope disagree with all of you...

This is what you need to convert the front to 9mm through axle.

- the actual axle.

Just realised that's not what you are looking for.
Yes, not sure, if you want nuts on both sides. I have a through axle on my front Hope, just tighten it on one side.
-
• #346
I said 10mm when, of course, I meant 9mm...
I have this
and this
I just want an axle so I can M8 hex that sucka, I hate having a QR front wheel...

• #347
i've got gabes old wheels, its a solid axle with 15mm track nuts either side. axle just slides of its own accord. not sure how 'original' it is, but it works.
-
• #348
Yeah, I think you can just use any old 9mm axle.
Probably.
-
• #349
Anyone tried those gusset brakes yet?
I read a review, there good but are heavier than a bb7 with no added power so no point really

Whats the cheapest disc-brake front 700c complete wheel out there?
Googling turns up a Raleigh 700c disc wheel for £34... Bet it's shit though.
Would have thought getting a hub, one of the £20 rims from LHBPA and get it built by push or someone like that?
The problem you might find is that some front QRs are 9mm where solid axles are 10mm. You can probably find one but check it first.
You could use an allen key skewer. Like a normal QR but with an allen key on the end instead of a lever.
