I'm likely to transfer the MKE pologuard from my old bike over to this one, so a Sugino XD crankset. Rear wheel would be either a Hope Pro2 Evo trials/Mavic 717 or a DMR Revolver/Mavic EX721.

• #278
The Hope hub allows you to shuffle the spacers so it's not that critical.
-
• #279
Although the MKE means you have to use the inner ring, so probably something quite short. Around 120 sound about right?

The revolver works with whatever the fuck a mid BB works out as.

Does anyone in polo use a gyro? Will I break it if I get one? Can you even get them for 1 1/8th headsets?
-
• #282
yes you can. i've used the top part as a cable splitter which worked very well but then someone crashed into me and bent it all to fuck and i put my old double lever back on.

How do you get one of those shitty dicta freewheels off, the ones that dont have notches in them? Doesnt matter if it gets destroyed.
-
• #284
Pin spanner, like an old-style cup-and-cone BB?
-
• #285
What Emyr said. It'll leave the race on the hub, but you can get that off by putting it in a vice or using molegrips...
I might have both in the house, and I'm home today, if you need one today let me know before popping over so I can confirm they're here.

I remember trying that before, couldnt get any purchase on it, it kept slipping out.

And then you just pull it off?

That'd be useful. Thanks for that. You're around Denmark Hill right?

Removing and destroying a freewheel - YouTube
At the start when she is hitting the pick into the front of the freewheel, is she tapping it clockwise?
-
• #289
Yep, clockwise, she's undoing the centre cover of the freewheel to gain access to the guts of it.
-
• #290
usually it's anticlockwise on the bearing cover I thought? Probably wrong as she appears to be tapping clockwise.
I'm in SE22, other side of denmark hill. Am trying to get some desks made today but I'm still around for most of it. I'm having trouble locating my pin spanner which is annoying cus I only used it last month to fix a pump :S
-
• #291
Jimmy, if you're at home today come get your pole and bashguard...
-
• #292
Will do Joe, but only if I can't get a lift sorted for this plywood. Otherwise I really should get on with making the desks and bookcases, finally finishing the room that's been unused for over a year :O
Could you text me your address eitherway plz?

Bearing covers are reverse threaded Jimmy. (Or at least they have been on the Dicta and WI ones I've used.)
-
• #294
Just FB'd you, Jimmy... My phone's fucked atm...

I'm probably confusing it with cassette lockrings innit.
Cheers Joe, waiting to hear back from my mate on borrowing his wheels then I can pedal over.

• #296
Anyone have a standard shimano freewheel removal tool I could borrow? The one with the four notches.

After fnarking my hydraulic brake hosing, and being ignorant about hydraulic systems, I'm going cable disc.
Ok, so having read back, I'm getting the impression bb7 is the one to go for, but what cables are people rating most? Nokon? Jagwire? -
• #298
Anyone tried those gusset brakes yet?
-
• #299
Goodridge cables and housing + middleburn oiler. There is a ebay Hong Kong seller who does a set of bb7 for half the UK retail price.

The hong kong stuff is rejects though, so you could get a set of brakes with a paint defect or something structurally wrong with them... Felix you get staff discount anyway right?
What rear wheel setup are you running? What cranks are you running?
The bb length is determined more by where the sprocket is on the back wheel than the rear spacing.
