One thing i found with running large 26" tyres though is that the ball is more likely to get stuck to or go under them.
I never thought about that, but I suppose you're right. Looking forward to getting 1.35" and nearly half the ninja balls!

maxxis dth are large and pretty light, they also take a load of pressure so roll pretty well, I like mine

@danwentskiing, why did you put a 26 front on? The trail with the stock fork is in the 60s, which should feel pretty good for polo
-

The fork I had was a Genesis one, a few cm longer than a Pompino one, and I had the 26" lying around, and it reduced the wheelbase a bit. I did it as an experiment and prefered it to what I had before, so kept it.
I still think trail is just one factor (including wheelbase, wheel weight, stem/tiller length, bar width and position, weight distribution etc etc) and it's really hard to isolate its influence.

Despite what the manufacturers say Pompino's are actually pretty slack. Mine measures at 71.5deg with 400mm x 30mm forks wheelfloptastic! smaller front wheel brings the geometry back into check.
Pompino's have pretty large trail, but even if it were a bit lower it would not be the only variable worth looking at.
Your headangle changes (among other things) where your low-speed steering inversion happens; the lowest speed that your bicycle will self-stabilise and ride without constant conscious steering corrections. Ever seens someone wobble away from the lights?
Do it allah!
I had a roadrat that rode a dream with shortrake forks and a small front wheel. Ran 1.5"s on it. -

Cheers guys, I think i'll go for it.
I'm keeping it 700 in the rear and ride 170 cranks clipless so shouldn't have a pedal strike problem. Might drop from 2.1 to 1.85 schwalbe crazy bob.
Will post some pics and results once i've built it up and played a few games. What forks would people recommend? Been looking at Kona P2's but want something around 380-400 a-c.

Speak to woods_alexis, he used to ride a pomp with kona tuff guys and beefy 26ers for quite some time.

anyone know if Ryan could weld disc brake mounts onto kona P2 forks?
-
• #210
I think that would be most likely kev
Although possibly cheaper to just get forks with disc tabs

I just want to use the same forks for polo, and for touring on that bike - so it'd be good to have the v brake option when i put my (straight) non-polo wheel in there.

use it backwards to sharpen up your steering!

I've been looking at new forks for my pomp; Kona p2, tuff guys and some other trick forks so far. Does anyone have ideas or anything knocking about? I'd like ∼190mm steerer, might be back in London in a few weeks so could collect then

Maks from Hooks runs P2's and he killing it on em, but that's Maks. In the local scene, dublinkev and MotherGirl are using them. Might wanna speak to them?
-
• #217
They look like they have too much rake and the welds are tiny. but then they have a good reputation for mtb
-
• #218
Yeah I'm not sure about the rake on the p2's either…Which ones do you have again ced?

Anyone know where I can find a barrel adjuster for a paul lever?
-
• #223
Are they not standard M10x1?
-
• #224
I'll measure them when I can be arsed getting of the sofa, I think they're a bit smaller though.
-
• #225
I'd expect them to be a standard size - there's 2 different sizes. I'd hate to have to buy a barrel adjuster from Paul looking at their prices.
Let me know if you want to faff about with the forks i have kicking about in the shed - you can borrow and try out for a few weeks if you need to.
