After comparing the weight and feel of hockey taped mallets and my super inner tube grip I want to try hockey tape...
What kind of hockey tape are people using? standard field hockey? or specific stuff?
-
• #130
The big rolls of black stuff from Streatham Ice Rink... £5 IIRC...
-
• #131
Cheers Joe... anyone have a trusty link for those who don't live near Streatham...
this is my fall back plan but if someone had a better deal/one they would recommend i'd appreciate it.

Hard to see because it's in the packaging. I bought some Grays tape before and it was more padded like bar tape. I asked at a local sport shop in Cambridge and they had loads of loose rolls of the cloth hockey tape in different widths and colours for £3 a roll.

The cheap hockey tape on ebay wears down really fast, haven't tried the more expensive stuff though. Inner tube ftw.

Anyone recommend a decent wheel truer south of the river? I am going fucking cross eyed from the last hour of tightening and loosening the spokes and it has me on the verge of tears.
-
• #140
How far south?
Best I've ever used is a&w cycles in south wimbledon. Two old guys (both in their 60's), most perfect wheel builders I've ever used... As a previously 20 stone cyclist I can promise you I've tested plenty of wheel builders.
Or Brixton cycles is probably a bit closer to you?

Brixton Cycles failed miserably in a previous encounter I had with them, so might try elsewhere first. Was looking for someone around Brixton / C'well / Peckham area, Wimbledon is a bit far.

I like Bon Velo in Herne Hill for wheel stuff, Atilla there does a great job truing, and its usually same day turn-around.

I'm having a bit of trouble getting my dual pull set up. I have a Paul Duplex running to Shimano v-brakes with normal cabling.
When I first set it up I put the v-brake springs in the middle slot on the braze-one but the return wasn't smooth. The rear brake particularly was not springing back and the cable outter was popping out of the lever.
To counter this I put both brakes on the top springs to give them more return. The upshot is that braking is heavy and it takes quite alot of effort to engage the brakes, meaning I have to use at least 2 fingers on the lever and therefore am less stable.
What do other people do? Any other solutions to this?

I've been saying for about a year that you if you want cheap mechanics or parts then go to Vaidas.
If you tell him I sent you then you will get a very good deal. If you take him cake you'll get a better deal.
Also, if you want any new parts, ask me / Cyclis I can probably beat most prices on the internet.

Did you try the middle pins and adding more tension on the micro adjusters (clockwise rotation)? There is usually a happy middle ground of well-sprung brakes and easy-to-pull brakes... also: lube your cables.

Especially with brake arms which have been used for quite some time.

I did try micro adjustment, but only on the back. I think a happy middle ground might be middle pins on the front with normal tension in micro adjustment and top pins on rear with slack micro adjusters. I has lubed cables.
I'll keep fiddling.
