  • Mental. Fully subscribed by 12.00 this morning despite the extra 300 places. Thought it took at lot longer than that to fill up last year.

  • Fuck it, I'm going to be skint this month!
Bought the flights and car hire ,gatwick to bologna, £185.
The plan will be to drive down and camp using the car to keep the bike box and other bits in..... So excited now!!

I'll be on the hetchins..... What tyres do people recommend.... 28's?

I currently live in Trento (at the bottom of Monte Bondone) and so I'm looking forward to meeting up with some London folks. Are you guys planning on getting together before the event? Would be great to ride with a few English speakers for a change.

I'll be riding a 531 from the 70's with Super Record; missed last year due to the fast sell out; didn't make the same mistake this year. CAN'T WAIT!!!

  • trying to get my mate to drive in his citroen ds safari , should get a few bikes in that !

  • Healthy looking list!

  • it may not be the puncture fest you think, out of 6 of us doing the 135km we had one puncture and most of us were on 23's

  • what distances are you all doing , any 205km heroes?

  • 205k.....my training started today!

  • seems a shame to go all that way and not go the full distance.... I'm in for 205k

  • what distances are you all doing , any 205km heroes?

    Hand up

  • I've no plans this far aside from combining with a trip avec le girlf but for the evening before/ on the day i'd hope someone will offer some company.

  • I should be arriving in Gaiole about 4 pm ish, pending getting lost etc......on the Friday. Is it right that there is a bit of a dinner and wine thing going on?

  • Signed up for the 135 but if i'm flying this summer I may do the 205.

Does everyone get off and walk at some stage? I've seen video's with hills where literally every single person is walking!!!!

  • nout wrong with walking i think its all part of the fun .......35 to 40 degrees us northern europeans will suffer . personally i am sticking to the 135 for now , i have never ridden more than 25 miles in a day so i should get a sharp shock !

  • 205 again, I've not walked last year (thanks to 39x28)

  • Well, if there is nothing else organised, you lot are all welcome to come and sit around my one man tent and crack on with the chianti!

I've been wanting to do this for 3 years or so and I am so excited.....I feel childish!

I've been looking at all the videos dotted around the interwebz and I think I've nearly memorised the course!!!q

  • BillundBen and I are arriving in Gaiole on Friday and staying until Tuesday. It's going to be awesome having so many forum people over there. Super excited! I'm only doing the 75k as I want to take it easy and enjoy some wine at the refreshment stops!

Now I just have to build my Holdsworth......

Glad we are not the only ones on the 75k. The reason so many walk is that there are two smoother tracks in the strada with tyre grip. Climbing, one behind the other on this strip is OK. However, if someone stops for some reason, puncture or gear fail, and you pull out to pass it is easy to lose wheelgrip and spin to a stop - especially if you got out of the saddle to keep going.

  • I fell off going up the monte santa maria and could not get on the bike again as I didn't have momentum. I was running 42/28 and that was the only bit I had to walk.

This year I plan to be fitter and do it in less time. Don't forget to eat well in all the stops. I skipped the ribollita and was almost bonking at one point. Big mistake... Also try to set out as early as you can, I overslept and started 6.55 am which was a big mistake as I finished at night, luckily enough there was a nice guy that had made it 5 times and knew the route and I tagged along with him.

I had schwalbe stelvio 23 tyres that weren't new and had no punctures. The trick is not to be seated most of the time, i think so you don't put to much weight on the tyres.

  • tubs and single speed on gas pipes the way to go then !

  • I'm in for 205, and the 100 at the Anjou,
