Woo 5 teams (and a few more people could easily make a 6th).
I had a few logistical thoughts last night:
I reckon subs should be used as a last resort (Feb/March only?) and they have to be within the same ABC rating. Also, if you're subbing for someone else, any goals you score don't go to your overall tally.
I think goal refs are not going to happen for every fixture, but we should try to play on Sundays where possible so that there is at least a clear goal line and we should actually measure goals and use cones.
If we do record scorers, we could do with a ref's assistant (perhaps in the other dugout) who can also make calls if the main ref's view is obscured. Good time keeping is going to be essential too, so we will need actual stopwatches to pause after goals.
Also, we need to keep pushing awareness of the rules - if you haven't read them, do it, and we could do with a few hard copies to hand.
Also also, we'll need team names ASAP and somewhere to record all the data - is google docs good for this? We could get everyone on an email list and refs are responsible to update in a timely manner. Or if anyone knows how to do it well on birminghambikepolo.com, it could be a useful promotional tool and generate some content...
Are we going to start with the initial 5 teams soon then?

I have a pair in my shed - free to collector!

Can we cut them into a few more parts? and add a few more bolts? that way we can bring them in two ortliebs..
-
• #32
Dan drives to polo every sunday anyway because he's hungover....
-
• #33
Yeah, but it's a ballache to stick them in my car/shed and I don't think they'll survive more than a few impacts to the uprights anyway, and we need better nets and they're all tangled up in my shed.
I very much doubt you'd get them in a few ortliebs, and I think it would be quite complicated to make them collapsible to that extent, but you're more than welcome to take them off my hands.

Oh, I heard from LJ, he's probably in, so whoever sees Rob, pile on the pressure (actually it's MG who needs to pile on the pressure as she's last on the list).

Looks like I might needing a Sub on the 27th then, prearranged Birthday Bash out of town for the weekend, if I am capable of getting back for it I will. From past experiences...chances are not good!, hic.

@squeak you haven't got to be there on the 27th, that's just when it's going to start.
But be dam sure your team will be thoroughly disappointed in your lack of commitment.

Yes, chop them in half but a piece of tube which fits the ID bolted in place to connect the two halves together would be a good idea....

I might have a go at making some hinged wooden ones or plastic tubed ones a la Bremen polo
-
• #40
plastic ones sounds like a plan...
-
• #41
would it not be brittle in case of a bike/goal crash/bail?
-
• #42
bendy plastic!

So going in to a DIY store and asking for that...;)

drain pipe would be good as it comes with the corner connectors

Sorry, I thought I'd already put my name down. Mind's on other things. Where did those dates come from? Did you have a meeting whilst I've been away? Otherwise can we have one to decide seeding, arranging games, point keeping, etc? Sunday after polo?

Matt made the dates on that - I suggested end of Dec, but most of the names are there already. If LJ signs up, we're all sorted! Woo!
Me and Matt kind of took over the logistical side of things, as meetings are impossible to organise with sufficient numbers and this is a pretty low-key format. We were going to seed people into a/b/c then randomly make teams from there, so some teams will be better than others, but not by much. If anyone has objections, raise them now!
With three groups of 6 people, there are some dubious a/b/c categorisations, but that's life, really. As far as arranging games goes, I think we will just have to learn from the process and adapt accordingly, maybe appoint one member of each team to be point of contact? I think one fixture per Wed/Sunday, and Sundays only if lights become a problem on Wednesdays.
Subs allowed in the last month to get games done and only within a/b/c categories (so Andy can't swap for Asim etc) Teams welcome to play fixtures away from Wed/Sunday meetings as needed/agreed?
Point keeping as per football - 3 for win, 1 for draw (practically impossible anyway), 0 for loss.
Loose end date of end of March?

Sounds good, are we keeping goal talley as well? i'm happy to get on top of all the scores/points as long as we have a rep from each team who i can badger for information.
The dates seem good to me.. they give us one more week to get Lj on board, then one week to get names/tumblrs set up.. If anyone does have a problem with the dates though speak now.

Love your math skills...3 groups of 6 = 18..lmao ;)
