  • Backwards compatible means that new products are compatible, i.e. work, with older ones. So Di2 12 speed is not generally backwards compatible.

The question you want answered is, are all 12 speed Di2 products interchangeable, i.e. will they work with components from different groupsets that are also 12 speed? The answer to that, as I understand it, is yes.

  • Agreed, backwards compatible to me means previous (speed) series - compatible within 12 speed generation would have been a bit clearer.

  • Oh yes, definitely!

The main restriction is that 105 shifters don’t have sd300 or satellite shifter ports.

  • Thanks all, makes perfect sense

  • It shouldn’t… I went three months without charging (also not a whole lot of riding, but it should hardly lose any charge).

First thing I’d do is fully charge the battery, then disconnect it (be sure to place a dummy plug in the middle port!) and then check the battery charge level in 2-3 days. If it’s not still at 95-100%, the battery is probably faulty (warranty).

  • Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but would an 11-36 105 12 speed cassette run on a 10 speed hub without issue if 1.85mm machined off the back? I know some have done this with 11 speed cassettes, but I've managed to avoid having to do that through using a shimano 11-34 cassette which is mtb 11s/road 10s spacing

  • Assuming you can do it without hitting the spokes I don't see why not. Di2 may have different ideas of where's the center, if anything

  • I would have thought so - on the basis a 12spd cassette fits on the same freehub as 11spd.

Check out bomber bikeworks - they machined my 11spd cassette to fit 10spd freehub - v quick and friendly and reliable.

  • stopees for days

  • You gonna do some enduro on it?

  • Thanks will look them up

  • Also another slightly random q, any reason why you couldn't splice an sd 50 and sd 300 wire and avoid having to use the ad 305 adapter?

  • Yum. I’d use a dab of acetone to remove the ugly branding/instructions from the various adapters.

  • hope so. might treat myself to some decent pads too - what are most people using?

  • Can't see why not. Be warned though - those wires are tough as nails. Hardest wires that size I've ever attempted to strip.

  • Thanks good to know. Both kinds or specifically the sd 300?

  • Haven't had a chance to play with the new stuff

  • Are 12s Red AXS mechs compatible with 12s Rival shifters? Also, if you buy the mechs does it come with a charger

  • Yes and no.

  • No battery, no charger as far as I can remember. Unless you buy a groupset.

  • Jesus. No worse than di2 admittedly. Thought I could get a cheap group set but…

  • You have to buy the groupset as one. It comes in a box then with charger etc

  • But not if you buy each item separately

  • Makes sense if you only need a replacement for a broken one. What it doesn't is the absurd prices of charger and battery

  • No personal experience, but quite a few people online reporting success with these:

    https://mrxsolutions.net/products/2-replacement-batteries-charger-for-sram-axs-etap-xx1-x0-gx-reverb

    £40 for 2 batteries and a charger.

    You'd void your warranty, though
