  • Huh... So I left everything out in pieces last night, connected back up just now and everything works again.
Starting to think that it might be a moisture issue, as my battery is in the seatpost and the seatpost has a large hole at the top under the saddle. Mixture of bike washing and rain maybe caused a short?

  • Shouldn’t. I mean the junction boxes get soaked on a wet ride and never usually have issues. Something not properly connected?

  • They're not housed inside the frame with nowhere for water to go though. Last few times I've taken my seatpost out it's been pretty damp in there, and noticed this morning a little corrosion on the battery terminal bit. Anyway, all seems fine now, sealed up the hole and wrapped the connections in some inner tube to see if that stops it happening again

  • Be cautious about wrapping electronics. Letting water out is more important than stopping it from getting in, since you will always fail at the latter.

  • I think my skills with electrical tape and inner tube will, at most, have made it more water resistant than waterproof

The gaping hole in the seatpost directly above a battery now being covered should help at least

  • What would the Tester Approved®️ grease be to provide a bit of extra water resistance, without resorting to wrapping in rubber?

  • What would the Tester Approved®️ grease

You probably want the AvE approved dielectric grease, he has more experience with herding pixies than I do.

  • Anyway, all seems fine now

Spoke too soon. Flashing red battery error light today, won't charge, and junction box indicating the battery has totally drained itself in the last few days (only ridden it twice)

New battery on the way. Is it worth getting the wireless unit too, as I have no way of connecting via laptop anymore? From what I've read, there is almost a 100% chance of the whole thing bricking the first time I try and connect/update anything via the E-tube phone app. Advice on making sure this doesn't happen please!

  • I also use a Mac and have found that virtualbox with windows and the x64 driver extensions has worked fine for me to manage it. Far better, in honesty, than the shonky mess that the iPhone app is; that thing never filled me with any sort of confidence.

  • Is it worth getting the wireless unit too

I like mine as it allows quick check of status and changing settings without the update. I've managed to do updates okay over bluetooth. However once did have to revert to the usb method as the app stopped halfway through the update.

  • I've been battling with Parallels and Virtualbox already, neither want to install on HighSierra. I'm not computer dumb, but not literate enough to get it to work.

  • This is my worry, I have no way to connect via USB anymore should it all go horribly wrong. And knowing my luck, it definitely will

  • Well try with the new battery first and hopefully you can get by like that for now.

Once this covid-19 is over you can use a LBS for the PC based diagnostics and updates.

  • I’ve put together a di2 group for a second bike - It’s all external, 6770 shifters and junction boxes, 6870 front and rear mech - charged battery, cables plugged in - I was expecting the shifters to move the mechs (no chain/crank etc installed yet) but nothing... when I plug the battery there is a green light for a few seconds on Junction A - am I doing something wrong? am I being an idiot?

    Cheers in advance,
    Matt

  • Can you connect it to a pc with the charger? Usually a good diagnostic.

  • Perhaps, I’ve got a Mac and it’s an external battery/charger - how do I plug it into a computer?

  • Firmware needs updating. Good news is it's an easy job. Bad news is the eTube software you need is Windows only.

    And you'll need a computer interface. Which battery/Junction A are you using? If you're using the EW-67 Junction A you'll need a PCE1.

  • Problem solved - too many beers, I’d put the 6770 front mech on, replaced with 6870 and it’s alive!!

    Cheers all,
    Matt

  • If it’s not one of the chargers that is powered by USB it may be a trip to a bike shop, buying online or asking around on here. Tbh it’s entirely possible to get the software running on virtual box on a Mac but it’s an arse ache so if you can borrow a windows machine, do that.

  • Anyone got a spare front mech? 6870 or similar

  • 6770 any good?

  • 68 at least ideally

  • Ok, I've managed to get a trial of Parallels working again (for the next 14 days), but keep getting an error when I connect the BCR2 charger, and it can't be found in E-Tube software. On first connect, it said it installed the correct drivers, but opening E-Tube it just says "connection check" and won't find it

Now it's not recognising it in Parallels preferences either. WHY THE FUCK IS THIS SO HARD.

  • WHY THE FUCK IS THIS SO HARD.

    Mac

  • And Windows. Fuck them both.
