Saw an amazingly paired down houseboat going through the lock by the Cat & Mutton bridge on the weekend, spacious and by the looks of it brand new/refurbed. Black with polished brass portholes and window frames. Scoped out the inside and it was yet to be properly fitted out, how exciting

P.s. any updates on your adventures, boat dwellers?

It's pretty likely that those stories are true. Canal and River Trust (supposedly a charity) took over from British Waterways (a government run company) in the management of most of the waterways of Britain, however a lot of the staff remain the same and the attitudes and policies do too.
For most people it's not an issue because they are able to either pay the fines to make the problem go away or make a good argument as to why they had to break the rules. Obviously that's not something that's so easy for vulnerable people.
It's interesting that Bath and North East Somerset Council "were disturbed both by their lack of awareness of equalities issues, and by their use of draconian powers to enforce the conditions of the licenses they issue" which indicates that this is more than just one or two cherry picked cases to highlight an agenda.
*that's a direct quote from a report by BaNES council.

Well, it's been a very long time.
I just wanted to say, it was a mild winter and aside from Duckie passing, it's been a pretty good start to the year.
My next adventure is due to start in about 18-24 months, we've been given a smallholding in Norway. So that should be interesting... we've picked a design for our house (which we'll build from our wood lot using our saw mill). And I will be trading in the water for farm life after the Norwegian and I tie the knot. -

I've loved reading your tales on here and a quick look back through your posts featuring the Norwegian is quite enlightening.
Good luck in your new house, it looks like a fairytale.

But, glad to hear it has been a good start, and big congratulations on the impending knotting! Sounds like an absolutely awesome adventure to look forward to! hugs xx

What a wonderful piece of news to see here, I wish you the very best in your new life homesteading in Norway and many happy years ahead with your Norwegian.
Will you by any chance be blogging about your adventures there? I was halfway through building a Tumbleweed inspired tiny home a few years ago but have, like you, moved on to a smallholding down in Devon.
Good luck.

Sorry Jacqui, I have been offline pretty much since I posted in June, the restoration has been more extensive than expected! Did you make it down to uxbridge? Fantastic news about the smallholding, and best wishes for your new adventure.
