Apologies Jacqui for the thread hijack.

I am so in love with your boat. well done you.

  • Long awaited update... will have to wait.

  • Thanks Jacqui! When you take a look inside you might change your opinion, there's not much apart from piles of timber at the moment.

Nice work, always nice to see a boat with history looked after. Love the solar power/electric motor combo, how many batteries will you need?

  • Yeah that's what we thought, it's a shame a previous owner put a pretty poor cabin on it but hopefully we'll be able to give it a new lease of life.

We have 24 cells in total, each one is a 2v lead-acid traction cell. All linked up to create one 48v battery. I've been told (but never confirmed) that they weigh about a tonne.

  • Wow,that's heavy. Do you get any concessions on your license/mooring for electric propulsion? There is a community boat near us called elsdale,a full size widebeam that is electrically powered, that's the only other one I have seen.

  • Yeah we get 25% off the license fee for having electric propulsion, which is nice. We don't have a permanent mooring (CC license) so don't know about reductions in mooring, though I doubt it.

  • which area will you be staying,or are you planning to move around? we are near uxbridge, just in the process of changing boats.two holes to throw my money in at the moment!

  • We're on the K&A near Kintbury at the moment, making our way back towards Reading. When we live aboard we'll probably stay within commuting distance of Reading on the K&A (train line follows the canal making this quite easy) but may venture out onto the Thames.

I take it you're on the GU?

  • I'm currently heading south on the GU and will then be heading towards the Lee and Stort...

Amazing, gagging for more updates, especially interested in the fabrication and painting articles. Have you fitted it out yet or is that an update to come?

  • ^ this.

  • I can't tell if you guys are taking the piss or not... It never seems that interesting describing the ins and outs of hanging doors etc!
Either way, I'm sure there will be many posts on the fit out. It's a massive task and we only have really weekends to work on it. The next update will be a thrilling installment about the floor build up. Painting will hopefully be done over the summer and I have to take some more photos of the new steelwork before I can write one on the new cabin build.

  • I fancy having a crack at this some time so it's super interesting to me - please keep updating :)

I'm heading uxbridge way in august sir, it would be good to meet up. I've never been out there and am coming solo as the american working / pirate regatta durring that time

  • ... american working / pirate regatta ....

Pirates I hear ... What is this?!?!

  • Pirate Regatta - is an unsanctioned / unofficial boat event which is held on the east waterways around london.
I will be aiming for the other side of london during the festivities. it is a lot of fun but this year they are aiming to keep the non-pirate elements to a minimum, last year some locals came and stuff went missing.. boats got robbed etc., for those reasons I won't be giving anyone any details about it (not that I don't trust my friends, its just not something that should be widely broadcast)

  • Ah, ok. Let us know when you're out West ... we'll come visit :)

  • yay!!

  • ok so this "part of my story" has 26,000 words.. does that constitute a novella? (hmm. apparently not, 80k -90k apparently)
there's a second section I've not published yet (sorry to those waiting) but I think i may edit them together and see if anyone's interested in it..

  • I have been dying to hear more story from you.

  • I too have been awaiting more, looking forward to it Jacqui.

I was thinking about you and Miracle as I tootled along the Regents Canal towpath to the Dynamo.
