I think marking one forum at a time as "all read" is more useful, once you've read everything you want in what you can see...
As for sigs, just say no: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2011/10/the-gamification.html

It's not a high priority feature... I've got to build the main system first... but I certainly want noise control to be in there somewhere (beyond just allowing totally hiding whole forums).

Got any jobs going?

Not for you forruns.

Initially no... as we'll be in SF for the first few months hopefully, and we will lack the ability to make use of more hands until we get the foundation down and know we're going in the right direction.
After that though... 6 months time... if everything works out, then yes.
The biggest thing we're missing is a really ace UX designer and front-end person.

Is 6 months enough time for me to learn what UX does and how to front end a person?

is that the same as a front man?

I have a pretty great front end.

Oh, and you'll be able to change your username without bugging me, and you'll be able to create multiple profiles (aliases) quite easily.
What are the advantages of multiple aliases?
-
• #195
If the user list is shared across the communities, you'll be able to present a different identity on each without needing multiple sign-ons.

Thank you, alias of Velocio.

^ That
And... if you are well known within a site and some great personal upheaval happens in your life and you want to ask a question but free of the baggage of your identity (for example, if it risks harming your future standing in the community, friendships, or even employability), then being able to create an alias supports this.
It's the reason I'm against the facebook style "real ID".
I deeply deeply believe in a democratic thing, and that anonymity is part of that. That at times you should be able to make an expression free from your identity, such that you are not forced to censor yourself just to protect your future. As in, if you knew making a statement would hurt your job prospects, would you make the statement? But what if the statement were important (i.e. whistleblowing?)?
There have been only a few instances of this on LFGSS in the entire 5 years, but I think they're really important to defend and to allow. I cannot protect against governments legally requesting data, but I can hide people from employers and such.

But you and Hippy can still just ban them if they are not funny though, right?

Erm, no.
It means the font size will increase, the UI will change, there will be a 'light' theme and a 'dark' theme, and that when you create an event you'll be able to use a calendar to say when, and a map to say where... and you'll be able to search for events within a time range, or just export it to iCal or Google Calendar... and instead of lists for attendance you'll be able to say "I'm going (and so is my mate)". It also means when you create classifieds you'll be able to say what it is you're selling, so that people can search... "Find me all 59cm frame and forks!" and it will be done.
I'm looking to make the site faster, simpler, easier to pick up and use. With it working really well on all devices, and a concept of 'types' of conversations... so you get real classifieds, real events, real reviews, real articles.
Basically I'm looking to make it easier to do what we already do, and then piss easy for people to do this for other hobbies, interests or even local areas.

Sounds fantastic David! I particularly like the multiple aliases idea. -

Mwah ha ha ha.
Though DJ has pointed out this is precisely how he stalks me already. I'm clearly too stupid/naive to have worked that out.
