LFGSS: Turning a hobby into a technology startup

I'm assuming this means that we will finally get signatures and those cool smiley face pictures?

Erm, no.

It means the font size will increase, the UI will change, there will be a 'light' theme and a 'dark' theme, and that when you create an event you'll be able to use a calendar to say when, and a map to say where... and you'll be able to search for events within a time range, or just export it to iCal or Google Calendar... and instead of lists for attendance you'll be able to say "I'm going (and so is my mate)". It also means when you create classifieds you'll be able to say what it is you're selling, so that people can search... "Find me all 59cm frame and forks!" and it will be done.

I'm looking to make the site faster, simpler, easier to pick up and use. With it working really well on all devices, and a concept of 'types' of conversations... so you get real classifieds, real events, real reviews, real articles.

Basically I'm looking to make it easier to do what we already do, and then piss easy for people to do this for other hobbies, interests or even local areas.

Oh, and you'll be able to change your username without bugging me, and you'll be able to create multiple profiles (aliases) quite easily.

No more copy / paste, oops there goes half of the list errors. This is what heaven must be like. Or something.

List errors and the subsequent flaming are one of the rites of passage on this forum. We can't make it too easy or we'll downgrade or 'hard' reputation.

Lists bump threads and show activity, so the new 'list' function/participation function would have to do would have to bump threads/topics, too. I'm sure that's something David's already considered and that would be easy to implement.

It's a basic intelligence indicator.

And the event attendance IS a list.

But a list type is interesting too... an "I'm in" thing doesn't require an event... the question could be arbitrary, i.e. "Who's in for growing some face hair during Movember?"... then again... that is an event... Movember is an Event that runs through November but has no place.

Are these examples of lists without times and places associated to them?

And lists of locks and OTP bikes should ideally be handled by searches over reviews and products rather than lists as they are today.

He'll be able to start his own community devoted entirely to lists. :)

VB - I have a good friend who was a CEO/COO for a start up IT company in the early 90's - him and another friend of mine. He's now sold up and is consulting for other start ups - company was successful for 10+ years under him and is still trading.
