  • He missed out Achill Island! It's pretty out there...
With a loop like that which rejoins at the same place I can see how it might happen - you just see on your garmin that there is a right or a left and you're not sure which (although you should know it is always going to be the right on that ride...

  • You'd hope someone entering one of these races, would do their research and planning!

  • Yeah, that's a pretty embarrassing mistake!

  • I see Jimmy McCallum set a new NC500 record at the weekend. Did 517 miles solo (10,000m ascent) in 28:57. Pretty incredible, considering terrain and weather.

  • Can't be bothered checking scale but that looks like a substantial mistake. Is he going back to redo?

  • Fundraising for Thrombosis UK. Shoutout from the DVT thread!

  • Met him a few weeks ago on a local club ride, 75 miles on tarmac and gravel. Didn't think he looked super strong until someone informed me he'd ridden 50 miles to get there and would be riding 50 miles home again too!

Given that he was around 10 hours faster than Mark Beaumont it'll be interesting to see if anyone can beat this time.

  • Jimmy Mac. Ex UK pro. Strong strong rider. Now 1pro ds.

  • Aye, I was informed of this at the time!

  • In no disrespect, the ride was not solo though.
Though I don't believe marks was either.
I belive both had people ride with them.

You cna see is this video marc did. http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest-news/watch-mark-beaumonts-epic-non-stop-ride-around-the-north-of-scotland-199001

  • People with them in terms of riders or in terms of a support car?

I don't know much about Jimmy mac's effort (though I know he had a support car) but yeah, looking at Beaumont's vid his definitely wasn't solo.

  • Both.

As marks wasn't solo. I guess neither need be. Either way, it's just a fun record.

Good to see someone doing something tough to earn money for charity. Deservedly earned.

  • And the Wild Atlantic Way is a 2100km Audax going the other way from the TransAtlanticWay.

  • With tracking?

Bad timing to have both running at once.

  • It's a short summer in the west of Ireland!

  • I checked the TAW rules.

Rule 1; Riders must complete the full course from start to finish.

So can't see BP being anything but DQ'd.

  • I reckon Adrian is more lenient and will probably just give him a time penalty.

  • I don't really see a time penalty as fair.

  • It's sort of ruined the race, with him having been so far ahead, would have probably have won anyway, but he's missed a great chunk out. Shame for Adrian to have that happen on his first running of it.

  • He can't control if the racers are stupid or not though. Pretty dumb to miss out a HUGE chunk of the route.

  • There is a lot of controversy so far in this years Ultra races!

Lets hope it settles down for TCR.

  • Imagine, this chap gets to the end, thinks he's won, get's told.

Learn to read a map if you're going to race ultras, ffs.

  • Reckon no one has mentioned it to him? Is he totally off social media? Not receiving texts?

  • Why is there a big jump on his tracker? Are we sure his tracker isn't just screwed? He jmps from Westport to Tarbet

  • What happened to @scultura ?
