  • I think there is indeed some sponsorship involved. The French Divide tracker page also has the BM logo https://frenchdivide2020.maprogress.com/

  • "Click to go to our partner bikingman's website"

  • Went out to the finish. Man looked pretty fresh. Has amazing support crew and selection of kit. I had been thinking about a go at the Malin to mizen in September but he has taken 90 minutes off the old record and but it out of reach of the ordinary endurance cyclist. Need to find some backing.

  • Yeah, he's got a lot of experience, having done this before, RAAMs, RAIs, etc.

He took more than 90min off didn't he? Article says >4hrs. I remember his last attempt but I don't recall the duration.

  • BM own a bunch of trackers and rent them out likely to do with that.

  • He took 90 minutes off the north to south record but a total of 4 hours off the north south and back north record.

48hrs 36 mins was his last attempt. 44:15 this time.

  • Great to hear of him doing this at 61!

  • Kristof made up the two hours (staggered start) and is now leading the race. No surprise there but still nice to see he's back in the game (for now).

  • Is the yellow loop a shorter race or something on the tracker? Confusing. KA still got it then, nice to see šŸ˜

  • Yeah, bit confusing. Yellow is a shorter version of the same race.

  • Sorry to hijack the Route du Diable chat but my pals Rich and Tom have just launched a kickstarter about their cycling over the years. Here's the link if you're interested in backing it.

  • That's richpipps from STW right?

  • All in one type skinsuits, heard a few people say they are more comfortable for longer stuff. Anyone rocking the comfort gains??
Or tried it and gone back to more regular attire?

  • Probably! Sounds about right.

  • Depends on the skinsuit, I have one I've worn for 12s and 24s with no issues but I have another I wouldn't want to wear for more than a couple of hours.

@bananaskid has done a couple of tcrs in one, as have others.

Toilet access is also an issue, but maybe not much worse than bib shorts.

I wouldn't say any skin suit I've worn has been more comfortable than good jersey and shorts. The reason I'd wear one is for aero gains not comfort.

  • I was thinking regards to bib straps. Being taller this is perhaps more of an issue. Itā€™s not been that bad for me just others have commented on how much better an all in one is in this regard.

  • Get bib shorts that fit properly.

    Or just wear shorts.

  • Or just wear shorts.

    That's what I do

  • That ^

There's lots of reasons I wouldn't choose to wear a skinsuit for an ultra.
Rapid pooing is high on the list. :D

  • Allegaert's main rival early on, Yannick Lutz, has scratched, and Allegaert is now more than 100km ahead. Not sure if that was a strong field, but I imagine conditions may have been fairly atrocious.

  • If anyone was looking into riding the Borders of Belgium (I think @hippy had plans if I'm not mistaken?), they posted an update on their site, in Dutch. They are limiting the number of riders to 199 and you have to pay beforehand, closing on 15th of august or until fully booked. It's a 10 euro entry fee.

They also posted the route. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/33248786
