best fish and chips i have ever tasted.
http://www.aldeburghfishandchips.co.uk/restaurants/I grew up around Aldeburgh, and that was one of my local chippies.
The guardian made it number one in the UK too.

£3.50!
you move there in the 1980s!?
I haven't seen a piece of fish for under a fiver let alone chips. how small is the fish?! fishstick size?
Proof that it's possible to get a decent fish and chips for under a fiver in N1.
Mike's Fish Bar ftw
(it's actually £3.60, I was 10p out)

My Dad used to take the family to the Fryers Delight in Holborn for a treat when I was 5 (i'm 30 now). It was consistently good for years and years but I had a fairly lame fish supper there when I went there last about 5 years ago. I'm really glad to hear it is still good.
I'm having fish and chips in Aldeburgh tomorrow...they are incredible.

There's a decent chippie in every town in the north. It's not rocket surgery to them.
Trust the Grauniad to choose a chippy in the Snootiest Mediocre Seaside Town in England. Gimme Yorkshire any day.

@Jo
Yeah when it's good, not much beats octopus. -

My parents live in Aldeburgh. Whilst it looks pretty, I have to agree with you. I wouldn't live here.
Can't knock the fish and chips though.
+1 on the North. Even Harry Ramsdens in Scarborough makes it into the Times best chip shop list. Cooking fish and chips is NOT rocket surgery as you say.

You could prolly get fish and chips for the bairns for £1.49 though. Providing you didn't get distracted en route to the chippy though...

Fish and chips is my favorite food. I'm from the north, where as others have said, there's good chippys everywhere. Coming down here I was a little shocked to struggle the find a nice one.
My family often go to the highlands for christmas, and the nearest village to where we stay is Ullapool, which has the best fish and chips ever known to man. Pretty much the whole village queues to wait for the place the open and it's so worth it. -

The NE and Scotland is where it's at for fish and chips.

Best fish and chips I've ever had... Hole-in-the-wall fish and chip shop in Acomb (nr Hexham, Northumberland), open for about three hours a day and only three/four days a week... Queue down the street... Incredible... Just remembered, ex mother-in-law used to send me down to get Friday supper... Lish...

Aldeburgh have banned eating FnC on the beach, I gather... problems with gulls.
@nuknow I dig haddock. Think you got tge wrong end of the stick on discards. There are lots of cod getting wasted, but it's not true there's a shortage. Also, I think uou're wrong that UK fisheries are any worse over-fishers than any other country.
As for bottom feeders: Shellfish, octopi, crustaceans and flat fish all bottom-feed. Are you really suggesting that organisms that survive on carrion or shit shouldn't be touched? Pigs? Plants?
Foo. Loads of shiteaters are fine to eat.
Here, here Skully!

Lobster and Crayfish, also eat poo, and you'll find the healthiest tastiest ones swimming about where the waste water(poo) flows into the ocean.... NICE!
There can be only one..... shiteater. :D
Don't go losing your head over this bro.
