It's OK for Orthodox Jews to be vigilanties but not Muslims it seems...
btw. No one should have any religious affiliation in policing any city. We might be CoE but I prefer my law to be agnostic.

to me this is not the same as what's going on with the Muslims.
The Orthodox Jews seem to be a (big) neighbourhood watch and are following UK laws. The Muslim groups in Tower Hamlets are trying to enforce a completely different set of laws that are not UK law.
Two different things imho

Oh? If it only in Tower Hamlets then thats ok then.
-
• #5958
haha. THey should patrol the cemetry in Stokey but they don't want to embarrass any of their brethren who might be having a quick gobble in the bushes, dirty buggers.

That photo is about 5 minutes from my place. I learned what shomrim was about a month ago when one started following my Twitter account (for no reason since I very rarely use it). I also have my misgivings. Then again I have no idea of the extent of antisemitic crime in London, although I did once see a black kid screaming 'Hitler's coming!' repeatedly down the street at some hasidic types, before running away.
Similar to your point about vigilantism, a lot of people get their knickers in a twist about Islamic jurisprudence being used to settle civil disputes, divorce cases, etc - when Jewish law has been acceptable to this end since Victorian times. This is the origin of the 'they want their law over our law' belief subscribed to by that muslamic rayguns bloke.

I don't understand your issue? It's a highly effective neighbourhood watch assisting (and praised by) the police achieving response times they can't get close to matching on a volunteer basis. Even running a trained paramedic service too by the sounds of it. Membership not restricted by creed either. Not really vigilantism and definitely no similarity at all to the (very over-daily-mail-hyped) Muslim Patrol fuckwits.

here's an example when these patrols aren't in everyone's best interests.
not saying it's indicative of all of these patrols (as all cyclists should not be tarred by one bad eggs behaviour) but it shows abuses can happen.
Group of People Harassing and Restraining a Cyclist - YouTube
about 4:50 onwards is when they get involved

Sounds like good deeds but I notice the ambo has blue lights and is seemingly identical to a "normal" paramedic ambulance.. Is that even legal? I thought you had to be one of the official emergency services to use lights/sirens?

Are cyclists allowed to cycle in the centre of their lane in the US? -

Dunno - that new york video of the guy protesting about blocked cycle lanes by riding into things implies you must be in the cycle lane (and therefore to one side) if there is one. If there isn't one?
Have to say, there's no real reason for the cyclist to attempt the overtake through a tiny gap just after the car originally gets ahead. Then of course the driver commits numerous assaults and is generally a ginormous belm so loses any sympathy.

Everything in that vid is over shadowed by the vile comments.
I still have bleach eye rinses on the go. But it cant be unread.

We have some experience with "neighborhood watches" in Northern Ireland.
Let's just say I prefer an effective police force rather than unchecked (though no doubt well-meaning usually) individuals not bound by professional bodies with ethical codes and all that jazz. Do they have formal background checks? If anything goes south, who carries the can?
As the PSNI/council here is f-ing useless for smaller issues which can cause a lot of grievance (shouting abuse/noise issues/dumping), and the same may be the same in London it's no surprise though if people do form such watches. Case for government to do something but...blue moons and all that. Well they employ G4S, nuff said :P

Say what you like but I still think nailing a joy rider to a fence in North Belfast is a fairly efficient deterrent....

Are cyclists allowed to cycle in the centre of their lane in the US?Here in Candida cyclists are allowed an entire lane, but are expected to ride as far to the right as is deemed safe - deemed safe by the cyclist, that is.
That doesn't seem to change what actually happens on the road.
