Thanks for the offer, but you don't want to lend me stuff for off-road use unless you're sponsored and it was free :D

FYI: The OMM rack arrived in time and after installing the legs the wrong way a couple of times, worked flawlessly for the week with its matchy matchy thru axle mounts...

Does anyone make a lightweight ‘trunk bag’ to go on top of a rack? It’s the missing piece to create a modular, non-proprietary Tailfin alternative.
Surely someone’s working on this.

OMM Juniper? No mention of weight though.
Maybe it's time for Revelate to relaunch some old stuff: https://www.flickr.com/photos/drj0n/5619944622/in/album-72157626606836334/

Yeah more like the Revelate one. Basically the Tailfin R&D rack pack thing, with a couple of Voile rack straps. It’s basic stuff really.
You can cobble something together, but someone could design something specific and it’d sell.

2024 just ticked over.
Tbh I’m a fan and have a few of their things. But this needs to be lightweight.

moral of the story is, dont be a coward, buy a Tailfin

Link to recommendations. I don’t want a trunk bag with some rickety dicing system. Needs to be low profile, UL, etc. The brief just says ‘FKT’.

What is that? A sandal?

that and a Tubus Vega 👌

I agree with you, but we all know the real adventure is the years it takes to assemble the gear in a unique way for the trips you have in mind. If you just “buy a Tailfin”, then you actually have to go outside and sleep in a ditch, which sounds cold.

An expensive piece of rubber with holes. Yes, a sandal.

Depending on tailfin model, between 200 and 0 gms heavier.

I’ve done the racks and dry bag thing. It’s close, but it could be developed further. Top/side loading dry bag, would be ideal. Sea to summit made one but I remember it being hard to get hold of.

Salsa makes one, not cheap: https://bathoutdoors.co.uk/products/salsa-exp-top-load-dry-bag

Which Carradice product are you suggesting?

Seen. Too wide for a rack top, I thought.
Whups sorry, too quickly scanned.
