Can't believe no-one's mentioned rohipnol...
Take her to Kew gardens for a picnic, even better if it's pissing down as you can sit in the hot houses staring out at the rain feeling smug...
The obvious answer is to do what ever the other person likes, or even better something they've always wanted to try... Bondage?

the best first date I ever went on* was simply a milkshake and a walk through the city and then sitting in the park - then walking home. It was a long date - if you can talk all night and not get bored or look at your watch its a great thing.

I think ultimately it comes down to the chemistry between the two people. If you like a person you can make a sweet date out of sitting on a roundabout counting cars, but if you don't, doesn't matter how killer the event, it's still going to be painful as balls.
There's also the wildcard of having an amazing date but not actually getting along with the other person at the end of it. I've had that happen a few times. It's why I think in many ways meeting up at the pub is a lot better; at least that way you both understand the context.

Looks a fun date,

Hop on your bike, follow the stories and (re)discover east London on this animal inspired adventure. Big black bears, porky pigs and a thirty-foot tall feathered friend are among the beasts that you will encounter on this trail that reveals a wilder side to our urban environment. The trail goes between Toynbee Studios, Brick Lane, London Fields, Dalston and Old Street and takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete.
You will need a bike and a camera. Barclay Hire bikes are indicated on the map.

He wouldn't let me get out of the car until I finished listening to a SimplyRed song. He reached across & held the door shut.
Bitches don't know
He got hammered, pissed against a tree in a park and proceeded to tackle me to the ground in my skirt when my back was turned.
haha!

Any resolution? Any body actually try these, rather than going for a drink then seeing what happens?

My perfect second or third date would involve cycling (of course) along the canal paths or over to Highgate Cemetary (the tours are good) or the Chelsea Physic Garden, a city farm (Surrey Docks Farm is lovely as it overlooks the river) or along the Green Way to the Olympic site. The date would also involve coffee drinking, lots of south east asian food and possibly a movie or V&A/NPGallery if it's going really well. To be honest though, if you are getting on well with someone I don't think it matters what you do.
Meeting the family too early can be a bit hardcore though, as is introducing the date to your entire back catalogue of Acid House, Blues ballad, bitpop, new Romantics, Christian hip hop, Deathcore, or whatever music genre you are in to really, especially anything 'experimental'. I have been introduced to some of my favourite artists by bfs but not when it's been forced upon me.
Oh yes, and don't mention the 'L' word or marriage for at least 5 dates.

Thankfully missmouse did not mention that she wanted a bike based wedding on the day we met. Whoops, she did.

I'd be more worried if she wanted a cycle funeral.
Hahaha
First date/hangout - Strolled about Camden, had a few drinks by the river, we went to the cyberdog, but also wondered through the naughty department as we didn't know they had opened one - haha was definitely a icebreaker.
Would definitely recommand that if your date has a sense of humor.
