  • "Ready-to-wear"

    as opposed to...?

  • ^^ Bloody Hell - £1500 for a puffa jacket!

  • who even wears puffa jackets nowadays

  • Warm (and apparently very rich) people

    Made to measure

  • So... not sure if this is the right thread (although it appears to be), nor if this is blasphemy, but I just bought a KG271 frame (with the adjustable vertical dropouts), and was thinking of building it up as a fixed gear. Thing is, the guy at the local shop, who generally sounds like he knows his stuff, says that the weave of the carbon fiber isn't meant for the backwards pressure in the chainstays and could snap. BS?

  • Definitely BS, the chain tension compresses the stays, doesn't matter if it's the top run or the bottom run of the chain as the compression always goes along the axis from wheel axle to BB spindle, with the moments taken up by pedal pressure and tyre traction. If anything, the load is less when braking, because the traction is subtracted from the drive reaction, rather than being added to it as is the case under acceleration.

  • ^ What he said, that is total bollocks.

As an aside. I don't know much about the kg271. Whats the purpose of the adjustable dropouts?

  • Thank you for your responses. What he was saying did sound strange.

@Hovis, I'm not really sure, to be honest. I'll post a picture when I get the chance. In any case, the bracket that slides back and forth on the right dropout does have a hanger built in, so maybe their purpose by design has more to do with geometry than chain tensioning? Either way, it'll allow me to build it as a fixed gear without the use of an eccentric BB or hub.

  • Here's a picture of the right dropout of a KG271 that I found online. Looks like the hanger was cut off and then replaced -- don't know why. It shows how the adjustable dropouts work though. http://i733.photobucket.com/albums/ww335/telepciaka/100_1499.jpg

More likely broke off, it looks as though it has been well used

  • No sign of logos. It's all very odd...

Fortunately, they also do proper clothing.

  • Few weeks back I mentioned I was building a KG271. Here it is:

  • oh dear lord what have you done to that frame?

a poor puppy slain with some H+ son wheels and bmx pedals

I recently crashed and broke the mech hanger on my kg281. Call Look or a local Look dealer (i used Bike n Run in East Finchley) and you can get replacements

  • ^^^ That could be so hot with some care and attention :(

I've always wanted a LOOK since I first saw one, and now I have one. Horizontal top tubes represent.

Lugs make me happy. It deserves better wheels than Model Bs and a slammier stem to offset the HeadFit, but early days. Still kicking myself for not buying a 595 on bikeradar with Athena and Neutrons for £1300, but that's life; I'd already bought this frame.

My next will definitely be more colourful

  • nice! all you need are some bmx pedals and then youre good to go

  • Thanks @punkture. To be fair, those wheels are placeholders I had lying around, and I don't have the money for anything else right now. The project was to build a fixed gear, so I'll stand by the pedals, which have straps now -- I'm sure you'll approve.

Incidentally, does anyone have any pegs they'll sell cheap?

    ha!

seriously though, when you have a bit of cash, stick a geared road groupset on it, get a replacement rear mech hanger from Look and the bike will ride 100000 times better than the set up you have now, IE as it was designed

  • Just need to source some Bora's and I'm done.

  • I'm thinking about selling my 2012 586 UD (stock pic) in Large (geometry). It's less than a year old and in pristine condition. I have been very thorough with cleaning, degreasing, lubing and polishing, and it did not go out at all this winter.
Although it's an amazing frame it's also a tad too big for me so I'll be looking at the same thing in a Medium. If you are interested or know someone who would be PM me. Thanks.

  • Dibs pie plate if you split

  • For your TT bike? I foolishly binned it upon delivery. Contact Ming and let us know how you get on.

  • Hello, this is my look kg96, I do not use it much now, but this is one of my favorites, I love the black mondrian style and touches of red. Currently it is configured with a "profile" lo pro extension, mavic brakes - transmission & campagnolo veloce levers, campagnolo record hubs with red ambrosio rims
