  • There were a few more ladies interested but either couldn't make the date, or were double booked etc etc.

I'm genuinally intrigued though if opening it up to both sexes has put any girls off thinks personally I'm off the thinking, the more the merrier as long as everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet, as it were.

  • poots.

make a flyer, and stick it in LMNH.

  • I haven't signed up b/c I the last time I did it I said I'd never do it again.

  • I haven't signed up b/c I the last time I did it I said I'd never do it again.

You mean Ldn to Brighton, rather than a Ladies Ride, right?

  • You'll have to admit that this is an imaginative interpretation of 'ladies' though. Why not change the name since no one going minds. btw, I noticed that yellowtyre also had to cancel a while back and no one seems to have picked up. Have a good ride y'all.

  • I'm so looking forward to this ride now! The last Brighton ride was great but the pace was definitely faster than my ability (I'd only owned a bike for 8 months at the time). Then when we FINALLY got to the pub stop for a decent rest, Stonehedge was talking about his planned ride from London to the Lake District and that was when I realised I'd accidentally gone on a ride with lots of super fit people!

Fingers crossed that the weather will stay nice... :)

  • Look at you though! You managed the whole way with the "superfit " people! Good going, you'll find this ride to be a piece of cake this time.

  • I did make it! But on some parts of Ditchling I couldn't even turn my pedals, while the super fit people all sprinted effortlessly to the top! :)

I'm sure this time will be easier as I must be a bit fitter now, AND I'll probably bring a geared bike to spin up the hills and save my poor knee from all that grinding.

  • Er, just so everyone is clear. I'll probably be walking up 'D' like last time (and the time before that) and the next time.

Will actually make an effort to ride as far as I can before I fall off/walk but I'm not optimistic. Tow rope somebody!!

  • I'll bring a bungee for ya....

  • You mean Ldn to Brighton, rather than a Ladies Ride, right?

Yes, Ldn to Brighton. I liked the first two hills, the third was enough to put me off of doing it again, though I might could be tempted...

  • C'mon Jayloo, it'll be awesome for you to come.

  • I'll bring my trailer!

  • haha! trailer! hmmmm....sigh I'm always considering another Brighton ride. Have to get my geared bike up & running.

  • Bungee and/or trailer for 'D'. What's not to like? C'mon Jayloo, it'll be fun!!!! AND I'll attempt to wear lipstick and nail varnish and, possibly, a skirt (over the padded shorts, natch).

I might rethink that nail/lip stuff once I've sobered up in the morning :-).

  • Did somebody just say superfit and Stonehedge in the same sentence? How wrong you are...

  • aye jayloo pretty sure you are faster than me anyway...

Malaysian is your friend still coming on MTB? I will also. small-wheeled solidarity innit.

  • Yep, Clare will be rocking the 1998 Hardrock.... At the minute with guards, racks, bells, whistles, reflectors, pumps, locks and other accessories it weighs about 35lbs.... I'm on a promise to lighten it up for her the night before the ride.

  • @Stonehedge Honestly you guys didn't even look like you were breaking a sweat and I was dying! :)

You'll have an amazing time - ladies and, er, non-ladies. Very sad not to be able to make it. I'll be there in spirit -'cept maybe for Ditchling, when my spirit will be hanging out by the ice cream van, having a 99 and waiting for you all to get to to the top. But other than that, totally with you all the way.

sweet. I see her 1998 Hardrock and raise my 1995 Giant. actually, raising it is quite tricky...

  • I haven't signed up b/c I the last time I did it I said I'd never do it again.

I felt the same way (minus liking the first two hills) but I figured since this was a Ladies ride it wouldn't be quite as hardcore as the one I went on last year, and so would be a good re-try of the route. It doesn't seem as much like a Ladies ride anymore though. However, as long as the guys don't try to take over I'm fine with it. So Jayloo come along and we can hate the hills together!

  • I'm being tempted into joining by Sally, I am so terrible at hills I'm still not sure....eep!

  • Ladies come! I'm going to edit the 1st post to make it very clear that this is a ladies ride and we'll be the ones setting the pace, all waiting for each other etc.

I HATE* hills and there's no way I could get up Ditchling but it's a really nice ride and something different to give you a bit of a longer distance challenge. When you get to the top of Ditchling and then ride down onto the beach at Brighton you'll be so pleased with yourself, that it totally makes the effort worth it.

*hate not being very good at hills but love the buzz of achievement when I can get up a hill

  • Just remembered something important!

Don't forget to check that trains are running and there are no engineering works on Saturday. I fell foul of this on Friday. Nobody wants to get to Brighton and realise they're going to have to thrash up Ditchling again!
