Ha!
Can I use this on my facebook kuba?
I remember thinking while this was happening, whether either one of us was doing something against the rules, or whether it was fine.

• #503
hehe :) yeah go on, use it! Paul.

Your hand on the fence may be illegal soon (NAH), avoid doing it anyway as it compromises being in control of your bike and you could break a finger.
Iain would have probably forced his way through the gap as you've given him few alternative options.

Yeah, currently it's not though, so I guess that's not an issue as such from the rules point of view.
But just before that, he was effectively blocked by me in the corner, and my arm was across the front of him. Which I guess is a foul?
So he then ducked under it (which is what you can then see), and then invaded my cockpit space, but he didn't really have any option not to at that point. Is that a foul?
We were both on the ball at various points in that play.
I also want to point out, there was no malice, or comment from either of us on it, it was just playing on my mind after that, and thinking What Would Jono Do?

In my eyes you lost control of your bike when you put your hand on the fence and your cockpit wouldn't have been invaded if your hand was on your bars (shoulder-to-shoulder, etc), but there's really nothing to call here I think?
It would have been nice if Iain hadn't invaded your space/cockpit and had instead backed out of the situation/pivot turned/whatever, but it was a mistake to put your hand on the fence and (possibly) and overly-aggressive move by Iain to get clear of the situation (no foul). Most players will do anything to avoid being stuck on a fence (lean/power through/tussle/etc)...
There's a thread on LOBP at the moment discussing hands on fences (and some other Worlds rules), I think hands on fences is a bad thing because it invites players to get tangled up with one another, but others disagree: http://leagueofbikepolo.com/forum/rules/2011/09/29/lets-make-this-easier-for-the-refs
The rules we're currently using don't mention any of this though, this is all just opinion, nothing to see here really, etc.

looks like you haven't got the ball or your bike under control. Iain is concentrating on the ball and continuing to play, whereas you are locking him up with the aid of the fence.
*you should be ashamed of your self john, absolutely disgusted with yourself and give iain that Oakley hat as a start of an apology, but you've got a long long way to go to make it up to him believe you me! -

In my view, any time that a player has both hands off the bars, and is impeding another a player, as you appear to be doing in this pic, that player is no longer in control of his bike, and therefore liable to be committing some sort of foul.
Obviously, in this case, it's a minor foul, and I would only have called it if you or a team-mate had come away with the ball.

That's not in the rules though Bill (not saying it shouldn't be, but just that it's not)...

11.2.5 – Body–to–bike contact is not allowed (for example: holding part of another player's bike, leaning across a players cockpit, etc)
I think John is clearly leaning across Iain bars.
11.5.3.1 – If the check against the "mesh" is deemed excessive, or reckless, the referee has the option to issue a warning or a penalty.
I think the above is also "excessive".

Iain instigated the tussle after John put his hand on the fence, so by our current rules Iain would have instigated the body-to-bike/bike-to-body?
But yeah, I see what you mean, it definitely needs clarifying though as we don't mention trapping players, hands on fences, etc.

John is behind Iain's bars not over them (appears to be leaning over his back/saddle area), and doesn't appear to be a check either. Wasn't there though, just like getting involved.
BFFCOMM banned holding onto the fence in last year's BFF. BFFCOMM are the originators of all future rule changes.
BFFCOMM - Ahead of the game since 2010.

I don't want to draw this one out, but looking at John's body-shape, you can see that his upper body is very much to the side, almost sitting on Iain's saddle, and if he had dropped his left arm, he would almost be hugging Iain.
This is all a little unfair, as it's a freeze-frame of dynamic action.
And I want to make it clear that I am discussing, as opposed to condemning.
hey everyone. I was the one with the big camera watching for some time... have uploaded some photos here: https://secure.flickr.com/photos/kube414/sets/72157627869434358/ enjoy!
