Clerkenwell Road, the climb between the junction of Gray's Inn Road, and the junction of Farrington Road.
See? gruelling;

I like this idea.
some of them on the list evoke good memories for me.
the forum loves lists so this should be good.
keep it up -

My parents bought me this book. I'll hopefully get around to riding some more of the listed climbs. You seem to have done quite a lot of them - good luck finishing the rest.

Cheers guys. The idea of the challenge is to do the climbs in the book - if you haven't seen it, it is this one: [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/100-Greatest-Cycling-Climbs-Cyclists/dp/0711231206"]100 Greatest Cycling Climbs: A Road Cyclist's Guide to Britain's Hills: Amazon.co.uk: Simon Warren: Books[/ame] - the only one IN London is Swain's Lane, but there are quite a few around London in it.
I believe the Author is doing a "follow up" - so maybe suggest to him some other hills - he tweets on twitter as @100climbs.
I am not the author, nor affiliated with the book in any other way than I'm trying to get my legs to get me up these climbs!

You've already done the hard ones. The rest should be easy.

I like the way Box hill is like 3/10. some of the Welsh ones must be bitchin
-
• #8
Yep.
I wanna do Wrynose with its 30% bits. Sounds just right for someone with my svelte body composition.

Rosedale Chimney is supposed to be a nightmare too - as is the Bwlch Y Groes in Wales. Genuinely - Box Hill is about right at a 3/10, it isn't long enough or steep enough to justify anything else. The pros will do it without breaking sweat in the olympic road race, its going to blow the minds of all of us who struggle up it!

Well done that man! A systematic munching of the top 100 hills book is a solid achievement.
Favourite so far?
I like Bank Road in Matlock, it's just so neat. Straight road, steady gradient, nothing more. Fleet Moss I also enjoyed (followed by the post-hill roll into Skipton).
The climbs around Denbighshire in North Wales are indeed bitchin'. I went there about a month ago and bits of me have yet to return.
Best o' luck dude.

I'm surprised Branscombe or Beer aren't mentioned.
Some epic climbs out of those two (maybe not epic enough)...excellent work though! and good luck, the hills in the peaks look tough!
Also i enjoyed reading the blog, is very well written

Thanks guys - @Friday - I prefer roads with twists and turns - a straight road always seems somewhat more daunting! I do like Riber in Derbyshire, I also liked Rest and Be Thankful a lot and the cobbles of Shibden Wall were a unique challenge - on that basis, Consitution Hill was also fantastic as well - especially given the TOB footage from a couple of years ago.
@soperRiva - I think that some people have expressed surprise that a number of climbs haven't made it in - I think the author is currently putting together book 2!

I've gone back in and added most of the missing youtube videos and Flickr photo sets now, just need to get it fully up to date!

+1 hardknott is fucking obscene on the western approach.
Ridden it plenty of times on mountain bike, with that its mostly a task of trying to keep on the thing and not humping off the back. would not look forward to it on a roady.Went out with a few mates on motorbikes, didn't have one of my own at the time so borrowed a mates brand new BMW 600 thing (dunno what it was called, quite light weight for a BM, 600-750 size and orange?) coming up the switchbacks on hardknott could not get the fucker into 1st on such a gradient so ended up in the steepest part of the road, stalled out, on an unfamiliar bike, leant over, foot on the rear brake squeeking it backwards down the pass eventually into the grass.
Egg, face? Yes. Much.

Where's Jimmy Carr?

@Brickman - to be honest, I found Wrynose harder - first hill of the day, I had a big wind right in my face, the road was wet and I got overtaken by a car that stopped in front of me for a chat! Hardknott was made easier by the car drivers who were incredible at giving the thumbs up, pulling right over and yelling encouragement!
@dulwichrider - yes he does, he follows us on twitter and I agree, a really, really nice bloke. I would also like to big up his publishers Francis Lincoln who made a pretty hefty donation to the charity. Top people really.I believe Simon is busy travelling the country looking for hills for a follow up book - you can contact him through twitter at @100climbs if you want to make suggestions. Cheers

I'm sure Simon has an account on here.
Hi guys, I thought I would just point your attention the way of my blog - I am trying to do all the climbs in Simon Warren's book 100 Greatest Cycling Climbs in a year for charity. The blogpage is www.100hillsforgeorge.blogspot.com
I am trying to keep a video/garmin/photo record of the hills that I have done - the videoing is a bit ropey and raw, but hopefully some of you may find it of interest?
I am crossing the hills off here as I do them: http://100hillsforgeorge.blogspot.com/2011/04/100-hills-for-george-hills.html I am a bit behind on the blog, the uploading of video and photos seems to take longer than the hill climbs!
Your thoughts and tips would be welcomed - cheers. M
