  • Bwlch Y Groes in Wales.
Drove over it a few weeks ago (weekend away sadly sans velo) - stunning, stunning countryside out there. There are two possible descents on the south side - just look out for sheep wandering into the road on either! Good luck with the rest of the 100 hills and your fund-raising.

  • Woodborough Road Nottingham

  • Bit of a coincidence but I did the Burway (church stretton/shropshire) from that list last weekend - asked my mate if he wanted to go on an easy Sunday ride & he took me up that (git).

  • Hi guys - after a brief period of inactivity - A few more climbs up on there now (including the UK's "hardest" climb in Bealach Na Ba in Scotland). - hope you enjoy www.100hillsforgeorge.blogspot.com

  • Awesome idea, I'd love to give this a go.

My first ever ride on a road bike was at the Mennock Pass I bought my bike in Edinburgh but took it out to my parent's place in Wanlockhead and set out from there for a 30 minute tootle (what I naively thought was a pretty decent length at the time) and rode down towards Sanquhar. I got down to near the junction with the A76 before turning back and discovering quite how difficult hills are. I think it took me the better part of an hour to get back including walking a couple of sections and afterwards I threw the bike on in the garden declaring that I was never going to ride again!

Here is a photo of me doing hill repeats there about 18months later:

Incidentally, although of no interest here, I apparently took my very first steps along the stream in the open valley part of the ride.

I've never done it but apparently if you do the Southern Uplands Sportive you get to continue along the normally closed road right up to the summit at the radar station. [edit - just discovered that the radar station no longer allow this so the entire event has now been scrapped :( ]

  • Up to Hill no 81 on the blog now - www.100hillsforgeorge.blogspot.com

  • Good going. I hadn't seen this before. I've got to agree - Box Hill is meh. Probably just in the book so Londoners would buy it. ;)

I've ridden a few of the hills in there, and there are some right beasts. Respect to you.

  • Good work!

Greenhow and Norwood Edge are part of one of my regular rides - it's really nice round there.

If you fancy some company on the other Yorkshire hills, give me a shout.

  • I rode the Bealach Mor sportive last year. The Bealach is a beast especially as part of the sportive course that includes the coast road and a lot of other intermediate climbs... 10,000ft accent over 90 miles.

Also did a wee trip from Dundee to Glenshee (Devils Elbow), Lecht and home via Cairn'o Mount. All we'll worth a visit!

Good luck with finishing the list.

Here's a pic of the approach to the Lecht:

  • Ah - that picture of the approach to the Lecht brings back some memories - blowing a gale it was that day!

Thanks guys - appreciate it - Johnnyhotdogs - I'll put a note down here when I'm heading back up!

  • Nice one.

I work away from home though so if you get no reply, I'm not being rude - I'm at work!

  • Apologies for resurrecting this thread - but thought you might like to now that I am now up to 99 with just Mott St in Essex to go. Blog is pretty up to date (at 97) with two just to go up. North Yorks Moors and Wales were the last to be done and some goodies in there - Rosedale and Bwlch Y Groes the standouts I guess.

  • Just in time for his new book. Another 100 greatest climbs. Good luck.

  • Yeah - I think I'm going to leave that to someone else to complete! All my holidays etc this year have been targeted around completing this challenge and the wife, dog and daughter deserve a bit of a break...

www.100hillsforgeorge.blogspot.com if you want to check out the blog.

  • All done now. All 100 completed and on the blog. Met Simon Warren today too - really top bloke. Phew. Going to do "Another 100 greatest Cycling Climbs" in a more leisurely fashion!!!!
