That Eames replica up there, which I bought in September, has still not arrived. In fact, they haven't been able to even give me a delivery date. I'm not a fan of Groupon...

That's a bit shit. You can get them off of ebay for £400ish but the quality is hit-and-miss (like bolt holes not lining up so you can't attach the chair to its base).
Also my mum once tried to send one back (to China!) and the company immediately disappeared off the face of the earth. She got her money back through paypal but it's still shit. Come to think of it, I think she might've got to keep the chair too...

Groupon will be getting a telling-off if this chair is shit.

Does anyone know a place that makes bespoke high sleepers? You know, bunk beds with no bottom bunk ... My son has the box room and needs something that fits a funny size.....

I'm after a bookcase. Not sure if I'd be able to get this to mine though.

you could try shiply.com - these things retailed at £450
http://www.awhiteroom.com/naughtone/naughtone-plus-storage-unit-3.asp
you can have this one for £75 as i'm not sure which doors it has and it has no hinges!
definitely a bargain and the money will go in the office kitty so it's a good cause too :D

That's bloody awesome.
Anyway - somebody got me this book recently, it's really good, although some of the construction methods are a bit Heath Robinson (like furniture held together with cable-ties):
http://www.laurenceking.com/product/DIY+Furniture%3A+A+Step-by-Step+Guide.htmSparky, how did the Eames chair work out?

So far so good, lae. Seems solid. Leather's obviously low quality. Wonder if there's something I can treat it with?

See if you can get your hands on a steer leather care kit (about £20). Comes with a cleaner and a conditioner. Depending on usage and placement (sunlight etc) clean every 2 months and condition every 6. If its in direct sunlight condition every 3.
http://www.steerleathercare.com/leather-cleaning-productsThe cleaner is just a pure soap solution. Conditioning is the important bit.

This is genius. Looks great too. I'm so in to space saving design like that.
Can't remember where I saw it now but someone had a bookcase fitted to the shape under their stairs.

Shame this thread never took off as a subject.
I know next to nothing about furniture, but have taken an interest in the past couple of years. Apart from the obvious Eames, G Plan, shaker stuff etc, there's a few contemporary companies making or refurbishing nice pieces, and shops that I'm keen on....

I love shaker chairs hung upside down on the picture rail. I'm definitely doing that when I stop renting.

At the last agency I worked in October I was using this chair
Herman Miller - SAYL
want.
They're really comfy, but the looks still put a lot of people off. The upholstered version is shite though. Herman Miller chairs seem to have a direct proportionality between fugliness and comfort. I'm sitting on a Celle at the moment and my back's never been happier, wouldn't ever have it in my house though.
Also do not want.
My mother sells Eames Lounge Chairs (and other things) that she has re-covered in fancy designer fabrics. They have a bit of "I saw you coming" about them.
Incidentally I have a very rich Saudi friend whose parents have a holiday home in Nice - it was built and furnished in the 1970s and it has a proper Herman Miller Eames Lounge chair in it, and a wall of bright red modular storage cubes held together with velcro. They also have a full-size gold-plated statue of a puma and lots of other gaudy stuff.
