Stopping in Paris. I'm only doing it cos I want to go to a gig in Paris on Saturday night. Riding back Sunday.

Do so! Plan is the 11pm ferry from Newhaven, get to Dieppe at 4am and ride through to Paris. Stay overnight in Paris then ride back to Dieppe for the 6pm ferry Sunday. I'm planning this on a phone in the vet's waiting room so not sure about mileage etc but it looks doable.

if not wrap electrical tape round your bars a few times first, or of course a chopped up innertube.

good point re bar fit, I left the shim on the tandem. but yes, application of tape should sort it out.

In fact if I get a half day I may even pop hope and collect the shim thing.

I have electrical tape with me so should be able to make it work...

The cateye I have with will be fine on A roads though, so don't worry if you lose enthusiasm for crossing London in your lunchbreak :)
