  • Going to Southend, train back, in about two hours, if anyone fancies joining. It's gonna be windy as hell...

Tailwind though. I bet that was fun. Thoroughly enjoyed my ride home last night.

How was the afterworker? I need to live vicariously through others seeing as I was in the office till 9pm last night instead of on my bike. On the plus side, stupidly tight deadlines mean this shouldn't drag on for too long.

  • Afterworker was good but hard work, plugging into that headwind. The climbs weren't too bad, but every time you came over a ridge you got a gale in the face as a reward!

Windmill ride recce nicely completed though so can get back to proper Afterworkers again.

Here's where we went (and how slowly we went there)

  • Was fun. Hard work into that wind though. At times it even felt like mashing the pedals to go downhill! Cheers for leading Tim.

  • Positively ladies' pace. :D

  • With a 19mph headwind I'm positively impressed by that speed!

  • Amazing what a motivator it is to ride tight. I don't get that close to another bike on the track!

  • Yeah I'm just having a passive aggressive grumble. I am also impressed. If I'd been able to escape the office I'd probably have done a Skully and ridden to Southend, or somewhere else in the direction the wind was blowing.

  • Nice ride home from Kings Cross though :)

  • Skully didn't ride to Southend though. He wussed out, did the Lea Valley path instead.

  • Ah good. Will stop having ride envy then.

  • I was planning a 30mi blast due south to Tonbridge yesterday but unfortunately got bogged down in other stuff. Wind in the back ftw :D

  • Anyone keen for Monday? My legs feel a bit short of action.

  • Tempted... but guess I should really leave something in the tank for tuesday

  • Sure thing. I also realised I'm away with work tomorrow, and "might" be back in time. But only might. Bit of an early start than normal too so don't want to kill myself. Could make another night this week (pretty flexible about when in fact).

  • Still no afterworkering for me because of work (I am even trying to work now, although I seem to be doing an awful lot more eating jam and buying rubbish off eBay than working) but I thought I would share the exciting news that I am getting a Garmin! When I am back I look forward to getting everyone lost repeatedly while I fail to work out how to use it.

also I have 5 centuries lined up over the next 6 saturdays if anyone is bored, though I've decided I disapprove of talking about non-afterworker rides in the afterworker thread, so you will have to use detective work to find out the details.

  • Hmm.....................

I'm more likely to attempt one of these rides on a Saturday on the basis that I can be unconscious/recovering on the Sunday. I'll keep an eye out for the dates. March is out and April is............. interesting.

Sounds good. I suddenly have saturday's free and would love some long rides.

  • Work looks like it might be about to start fucking over my weekends as well as my evenings. Hnng.

In other news my Garmin went missing in the post so if anyone else happens to be selling a 705 for cheaps please let me know

  • Now that is a real shame. Eventually that will change. Hang in there.

  • The end of my horribly busy work time should coincide nicely with getting the Brighton marathon out of the way, so I am anticipating restarting afterworkers from Thursday 19th. Yay.

And in the meantime, if any afterworker fans feel like sponsoring me... I'm running for Carers UK, who campaign for better rights for and run an advice and support service for unpaid carers.

  • cheers laner!

  • no worries, might even mean you have to ride back afterall!

  • hmm yes. not sure what I was thinking when I decided to commit to that. I did 20 miles yesterday and riding 9 miles to work nearly broke me.

  • cheers Pete!

  • Thanks Will! That's quite the motivational message. I shall be reflecting upon that for lengthy periods of the course.
