  • buses driving like mentalists this morning, almost got smushed by 2 bus drivers pulling into the left hand lane at the very last second

  • well even though I am right in the heart of the action in Stratford and ride the main route between Central London and the Olympic site I had 400m of nice free olympic lane before it all just reverted to normal ? Where are the Olympic Lanes again ?

Not in Stratford thats for sure
    YAY

This gets my hopes up for my Mile End to Westfield Stratford commute. About to leave now so fingers crossed...

  • I think this thread should be renamed Is It Time to Start Calling Out Bad Civil Engineers?

  • I like these new olympic cycle lanes.

Nice and smooth, only the odd beemer in them.

I though Central was pretty empty this morning. Outer London was gridlocked through - you could see where the phasing has been changed and the queues begin. Mind you - I don't know why anyone would still be trying to drive into town today. Idiots.

  • I left a bit late so can't comment on proper peak but Euston Road was great. Just flew past all the traffic in the two nearside lanes. #win

  • They re-iterated on the news last night that cycling in these lanes is Verboten.

  • Lucky I don't watch the news.

  • How come most cabs were in the two left lanes but some were in the Olympic Lane?

I'll keep riding them until someone tells me otherwise.

  • How come most cabs were in the two left lanes but some were in the Olympic Lane?

"It'll cost you £130 but I can get you there in 2 minutes guv"

  • Ah, I spoke to another guy here and apparently the signs were showing "all lanes in operation" even though everyone was in the left two lanes. So, no potential for fines today methinks. I'll try again tonight..

  • They are in operation but the electronic signs will say if active or not.

  • It is a shame that London doesn't have more canals as they are a great way getting around town and you can cycle along them. Cycling along a traffic free canal towpath is so refreshing, furthermore they usually never have any broken glass on them either so riding them means far less punctures.

  • Route coming in from South West was fantastic, no traffic at all until Vauxhall, all the lights phased to green the whole way until that point, and no one in either the Olympic lane, or any other lane. Suggests due to closure of side roads, no one can even get on to the route!

I also saw the same thing re lack of awareness, once i reached the traffic, signs showing all lanes in operation, yet gridlock and a free pass for me down a clear road.

  • Eastway was a doddle this morning. Cyclists in the empty Olympic lanes; I even had a G4ser hold up an Olympic Bus for me, though I had stopped to let the bus out.

  • Is that the start of them attempting to hijack the marketing?

I loathe the corporate fascism that we have and sponsor logos everywhere. Don't really want Nike making it worse by trying to compete with it.

  • Anyone bothering with this tonight?

  • i'm just round the corner might pop along for a looksee

  • I've got no choice, it's on my way home. Will have a nose. Is everyone going to play dead again?

  • i hope there will be some fast riding involved ... away from po-po

  • I am starting to like the Olympics, hotels severely underbooked, city closed for traffic, maybe it
will be a summer for londoners.

  • Nike: Find Your Greatness. (UK) - YouTube

I see LOCOG forgot to trademark "London"

  • they did, in combination with some other words

  • CS9 has been turned into a regular car lane.
The regular car lane has been turned into an Olympic lane.
the CS9 road markings have been covered over (loosely)

Was a touch of mayhem this morning, cars were trying to do the right thing.

They suggest cycling during the games rather than drive/public transport and then they remove the cycle lanes...

    rid- dick - u - less.

  • When you have escaped the police come to Easts in Stoke Newington.

The shittest thing is the bottom of Southwark Bridge onto the cycle-only Victoria street is now mostly blocked off with fucking bollards and cones, leaving a 2ft gap to fit all the cyclists through.
