Idi Amin killed an estimated 300,000 - a lot, but Pol Pot's year zero "experiment" wiped out about 1 million. In percentage terms (those killed as percentage of total population) Pol Pot must be the worst. In outright terms, must be Stalin - 20 million plus?

Slightly off topic, but its interesting that some wars, conflicts just don't resonate with the public, even though they are reported extensively by international media. For instance I wonder how many people are aware of a devastating war in Congo that lasted from 1998-2003....or that 5 million people died.

He's not really a dictator, but I have always had a soft spot for Gideon Gono, Robert Mugabe's right hand man and Zimbabwe's central banker.
I admire how he has stuck to the job even after it is evident that he has more or less singlehandedly fucked up the economy beyond any repair. (In the picture above he is unembarrassed holding up a 50 million dollar bill) He is also a well of original ideas; he has transformed the central bank to include things such as diary production.

No one has mentioned this cat. Not the worse by any means, actually favourable at some points in time.
Fidel Castro if you hadn't worked it out.

A friend of mine got one just like that from his garden in Stoke Newington.
We liked it so much we had to get Spiderman involved.

Hugo Chavez has won several free and and fair elections; unlike George Bush, for example. I don't like his associating with Mugabe et al but it is fatuous to call him a dictator.

While in the region:
Than Shwe of Myanmar/Burma.
Scary guy.
Some mate of mine, who works for National Geographic, asked me once if someone could send some documents about Burmese opposition to my address in London and then someone from Polish embassy would pick them up, but thankfully they changed their minds. I was seriously shitting myself thinking, that I could be in possession of the whole opposition list and their government is all but democratic. -

He had no flair or style though. Just a big wallet and knew about expensive things to spend the money on.
Also, I was adamant MrSmyth's avatar was Eazy-E, it's only now I realise it's Gadaffi.

No style? His private yacht was equipped with surface to air missiles and had secret passages to take him to his getaway mini-submarine in case it was boarded by an enemy. All it is missing is a group of sharks with frikkin' laser beams on their heads, and lets face it in this time of WWF hippies they are hard to come by!
