Picked up via the "Vinyl" thread...
The Total Refreshment Centre LP is really good.
Out today. I've been streaming it on Spotify this afternoon. Reminded me a lot of Blue Lab Beats.

For me the best stuff was their early releases on People records in the late 90s.

I don't know anything about them embarrassingly, can you recommend any of their earlier stuff ?

The 'My history' and 'Voonga vonge' eps, both from 98 are favourites of mine...but IG Culture is pretty much the main man behind New Sector Movements so I'd check out his stuff in general. He's always had his own unique style, much like Kaidi Tatham.

Also check out Likwid Biskit, which is IG Culture and Kaidi Tatham together... And Likwid Continual Space Motion's 'Earthbound' album.

Don't know much about New Sector themselves however I do know that their remix of "Eu Quero Ser" (Lenna Bahule) was one of my top tracks of last year.
Came out as a digital release only on Bandcamp about a year ago now.
Absolutely banger of a tune (imo). I've played this so much in the car (and still do). -

Proper blast from the past. I used to work in a music PR company whose office was above Goya distribution and IGās studio was next door to Goya.
IG has a no compromise attitude to music, doing what he wants with no thought for commercial gain, music for the head and body but no interest in watering it down or trying to make it easier for people to grasp.IG was always the most serious and righteous of the whole broken beat scene whereas Kaidi was a wildcard. IG has carried the bruk sound since those days.
There was a period where Co-Op felt like the most exciting place to be in London on a Sunday evening, first at the Velvet Rooms and then at Plastic People. IG was fierce in his selections but occasionally would show his lighter side, huge smiles and often leaving the booth when he wanted to dance! Tracks would evolve over time, different edits and mixes would get played as people refined their work. Wild complicated music for the heads, fuzing jazz, techno, house, drum and bass, hip hop and sound system culture. Fuck me the roll call of people who played and attended Roy Ayers, Domu, Alex from Tokyo, Colin Lindo, Titonton Duvante, Degoā¦ we had folks who would fly in from Switzerland, Germany, USA and Japan.
Marcus da Intalex, Phlash and Modaji RIP

Anything from that period, the Goya distribution stamp was pretty much a sign of quality. People records, Bugs in the Attic, Kaidi, Dego and his 2000 Black label, Marc de Clive Lowe, Nathan Haines, Orin Afronaught Walters you would possibly also enjoy Modajis Belle Epoque, Phil Asherās Woolph ep on Classic records etc etc in a more house/techno vein.

Ordered + Zara McFarlane and Tom Misch x Yussef Dayes.
So a week after giving HMV my first order, I got:
2 of the 3 records ordered are delayed as currently out of stock
1 arrived. Badly warped.Would I recommend HMV to my friends?
Based on that single experience maybe not. -
• #471
Thanks so much for this recommendation, Iām really enjoying it š
-
• #472
Ouch. Apologies for mentioning the offer!
-
• #473
I obviously blame you.
LOL
Zavvi aren't brilliant (in my experience), but HMV seem to be even worse, if that is possible.

I'm amazed they're still going. I live in Brum where we have the 'Vault' and despite having the best Jazz selection in the city, I don't buy anything there, 'cos lol at their vinyl prices. Rinsed them of all their Ā£3.99 RVG Blue Note CDs though.
