^^^ was just thinking the same thing Skullster, it's all gone a bit 'todgers at dawn' ironically after the OP posting about being shot at...
If FreeBornAde is still reading this it would be fascinating to here how your fight against corruption and injustice went. What happened and where are you with it all now??
Yup....still here. Just haven't had much chance to get onto the forum over the last few days. But I haven't forgotten !
Its such a mad story......I still can't believe it could happen.
I will write it up over the next few days.

it's only todgers at dawn because unless you shoot at targets or for vermin/food you have no idea what they are on about and as far as you are concerned guns means violence and death to people on the streets of hackney or in hollywood films.
anyway 22PPC or (6mm) for target 17rem, 22-250 for sporting or 25-06 for deer (if you shoot in scotland then something a bit bigger)
who cares about the cost of ammo? load your own and have a far more accurate rifle.I grew up in the countryside and have often been shooting, rabbits, clay-pigeons and targets, I even have an old BSA Supersport here in my home in Peckham. However, considering the original subject of this thread being a cyclist being shot at I think that the way this thread has become predominantly about guns and ammo is inappropriate. Just saying.

Last week I had rabbit and pigeon pie, but I don't think the pigeon was clay. It was however very tasty.

Don't blame me, I only answered a question.

A car travelling at 30 MPH would clear 400 meters in just under 30 seconds. In that time you would have to stop your bike, dismount it, adopt a suitable firing position (at the upper reaches of your range this would probably have to be prone), bring your weapon to bear, adjust for wind direction and bullet drop, (assuming that you are using a .308 this would be negligible but would have to be factored in nonetheless), work out how much to lead the target by, ensure that you are not putting any innocents in the firing line, check variables again, unsafe your weapon and then fire. Add to this the fact that your scope would probably need to re-zeroed what with all of the bumps / vibrations from carrying it on your bike, it would be a very impressive shot Mr Jackal. Hypothetically speaking of course.
Hmmm, apart from the fact that the vehicle would probably be moving away from me so it would be a zero deflection shot and I wouldn't have to worry about drop as at 400m zero the round is only 32cm above sight line at mid trajectory, so aim at centre of mass and it'll get the sucker no matter what. Oh, and I'd be quite happy with a standing shot for a target of that size.
Yes, apart from all that, you don't actually think that I would ride around with a gun slung on my back, do you?
Really:-)
And its melons every time.
Sounds like an average Saturday in night in Peckham sadly :-(

Your solicitor might have something to say about that.
And his case worker one suspects

By the looks of it, this was only a soft air (plastic bb) gun. The onle way that could have caused injury was if it hit you in the eye.
Of course the shooter is a right dickhead, but perhaps everyone needs to calm down. This is less bad than getting larger objects thrown at you. I have had rocks thrown at me, eggs, cans of pop, people attempting to kick or punch me as I rolled past.

Or perhaps being shot at with what appears to be a gun (not a lot of time in the situation to determine whether or not it's real) would cause a great deal of cyclists to panic and fall off, while cycling at speed, causing serious injury. I'd say being shot at or having missiles thrown at you when cycling along is pretty serious.

^ that.
the thread called 'BB Gun...' which should make it clear to all it wasn't anything else... reactions based on that knowledge.

It's also less bad than having the driver stop the car, get out, and stab you repeatedly in the kidneys.
So too is it less bad that the driver following you home and killing the family dog while your children watch, then burning your house down.
It is worse, however, than the driver watching home videos of you performing in a school play, and only having faint praise for your acting abilities.
Your response to this thread seemed fairly genuine at first Tiswas, but it was the silly avatar holding two custard pies that really undermined your creative integrity.
Next time i'm in hampshire i riding this
