Have you considered picking the As and letting them draft the Bs and Cs?
Didn't mean to fuck with your format. Random throw-ins sound fun too. Just thinking out loud.
-
• #82
Hmm, not really considered it, up until now. It could work, but I think it may lead to familiar partnerships, and unbalanced teams. I think i'd prefer to do it randomly.
-
• #83
Yeah, maybe another time. Random is good.
-
• #84
One more thing. I am not bothered at all. Just still thinking out loud.
If you go strictly by previous league/tourney standings, then the top 9 players will be Cosmic, Spring Break and Nice Lunch, right? So are you going to add some subjective assessment into that to come up with a pick on the top 9 (or 11 or whatever), or just group all players within a team as the same polo skill level?
-
• #85
Well, for a start not everyone may be there, for example Jono can't make it. but yeah, I may have to make some subjective decisions, though I'll try and stick to league (and tournament) results as much as possible. If anyone wants to step up, they are welcome to help me with the grouping.
The top players will be easy to choose, and so will the bottom, it's the border of A to the border of C that will be trickier.

I do quite like your idea of a draft tournament as well though, make the top 3rd of players captains, then they draft two players from the rest. Maybe later in the year...

I think it might be more interesting to have the C pool players do the picking. They are bound to have fresher opinions about established players than the A pool.

I m sure this'll be fun whatever...obviously Bill its destined that you're gonna be paired with chukker.

I am a C player. Maybe a B on a good day. But if I drink a lot on Sunday, I will definitely be a C.
Please keep this in mind, whoever does the choosing.
-
• #91
Actually, if I drink enough, I may be a D.
-
• #92
I am a firm Z. Where do I fit in in all this?
-
• #93
If you're a D, I must be an E

Here is an idea for a future ABC draft.
1) Have a poll to rank the players: A1, A2, A3 ..., B1, B2, B3 ..., C1 ... (only players vote)
2) First round: As get to pick a B, beginning with player A11.
3) Second round: As get to pick a C, beginning with player A1. -

agreed, this would be way more interesting

Change of plan, this will be at Newington.
The reasons are:
1) With the Polo Boom Box we don't want to disturb the locals at Downham every other weekend, better to spread it out
Is the polo boom box going to be at every polo event now? Praise be to all that helped construct it, it is an awesome machine. But I for one don't like obtrusive music in public places. The boom box in the park is on a par with the mobile phone at the back of the bus.
It makes polo look like some crusty critical mass event, which would put people off the game.

Relax, Rupert. It's currently out of commission. You can come to Newt on Sunday without feeling like you're slumming it with the lower classes.

Slow down dude, wasn't a comment on class. Read what I said.
