Oh mercy does have some dark crackers.
Most of the time and Man in a long dark coat have such atmospheric production from daniel lenoishere's another one from Oh Mercy

Series of Dreams is my second favourite off that. only Dylan would actually leave it off the album, perverse bastard.
-
• #34
perverse bastard.
That sort of sums him up. When everyone is grooving to his folk and protest stuff he goes electric, when that becomes accepted he get jesus...
His track choice is so perverse. He rejected Blind Willie McTell and Moonshiner!
Neil young made some shit albums on purpose due to publisher obligations he couldn't get out of, dylan throws us the occasional crap for the heck of it and diamonds can be found even in his worst efforts like Wiggle Wiggle on Under the red sky which is outrageous

His chistmas album was a weird move, but I didn't mind what I heard of it because it was so hilarious

Dylan has managed to forge a career from pulling the wool....
Absolute shite
Mentioned in 'The Overrated Thread' atleast 14 times

But it's a Dylan appreciation thread.
Anyway, no chance BD is overrated, even if you don't like him you should understand the songwriting genius otherwise you are a musical numbskull.
Overrated would be Eric Clapton or Bruce Springsteen or The Beetles.
What a load of shite. If you don't like Dylan you don't know music?

'Stay free fom petty jealousies, Live by no man's code'
'I'm not the one you want babe, I'll only let you down'
'Dont follow leaders, watch your parkin meters'
...in other words, to idolise Dylan is to miss the point entirely.
I've been happily missing the point for 15 years. -

The only thing I know about Dylan is that clip where he drops a bunch of cards.. this one I think..

Can't you read?
I said even if you don't like him, to deny his talent is egregious.

you were into dylan when you were twelve?! you were so much older than your years...

---he's so much younger than that now

How about a list of Dylan songs you can't bear?
There's certainly a massive chunk of material I can't listen to, in amongst the good stuff.
-
• #47
Difficult to do for me. I thought of Blowing in the Wind as too cliched and overplayed yet I heard a rollicking reggae version live at brixton academy. Because he is continually touring he does reinvent songs and riffs on them.
what dont you like RPM? -

He was always in the background, in the car, mostly. When I nicked all my folks' records it felt like it was happening now, brand new.

Ironic that the Mighty Blue Quim takes his name from a dylan song ; ' The Mighty Quinn'.
I take my name from my bike.
It could easily have been GreenRaleigh.Alright, proper criticism.
Bob dylan's songwriting is OK. Hardly genius, but OK. When other artists cover them they sound alright.
The trouble is that his voice sounds like a knackered starter motor. I've tried, I really have, I downloaded Highway 61 Revisited because you know, you're supposed to, supposedly the 4th greatest album of all time, but I can barely listen to a whole song without feeling my ears are going to bleed, never mind the whole damn album.
I simply fail to see the appeal of listening to that awful noise.

many people critique his voice and it does take some getting used to sometimes. Thing is his voice is so varied and different at different times and on different albums. He a crooner with Lay Lady lay, an old folkie on Moonshiner, dark and sultry seducer on oh mercy and on time out of mind he has gruff raspy sound almost a death rattle
And Blue Quinn you really think his songwriting is only ok?
blood on the tracks at number 8? are you mad?
i think you're just trying to be different.
