Was going to post links to 'Positively 4th Street' and 'Girl from the North Country' (the non fuzzy bear voice version) but as was mentioned ^ seems to be only cover versions on you tube. He must have a you tube embargo.

I don't "deny Dylan's talent"- truthfully I don't care or know much about him - but I'd rather not listen to his music. Musically I it just does nothing for me and lyrically... well, if I wanted to hear/read some poetry, he'd be towards the bottom of my list.
I agree with RPM that the worst thing is the fans. I get fucked by the insistence that I have to like him and if I don't then I'm a philistine. Just like Jeff Buckley: everyone tells me that he's an absolute legend who wrote brilliant, life-changing music, but I'd rather listen to turds sploshing into a toilet bowl.

Typical that Pistanator doesn't like it and calls it shite, and I'm glad some people just say they aren't into it, but it'd be good to have some reasons and discussion rather than the usual mud-slinging.

funny that. i was going to post: "i wonder how long it will take a pisti/balki/bluequin to post in this thread dissing Dylan?"
didn't think it would happen so soon.i dont really know any Bob Dylan songs

Anyone who says Dylan isn't worth their time isn't really listening to modern popular music properly... Which makes their opinion worth jack shit... I'm not even a massive Dylan fan...
But... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I agree with TS on this.
I also agree with SP about Jeff Buckley, Tim on the other hand.....

So if I say Bob Dylan ain't worth my time (which I wasn't anyway) then my opinion is automatically irrelevant? Seriously guys, grow the fuck up.

Yeah but we're in the 'Dylan' thread right?
-

Surprised that by now nobody has mentioned the 1966 Royal Albert Hall `bootleg' concert. Like him or not, this is essential listening that I will be enjoying today (especially the electric set).

Yeah but we're in the 'Dylan' thread right?

You weren't saying that which is precisely the point. You don't have to like Dylan to acknowledge the influence he has had. I agree with you that people should not be expected to like him or any other music.

My favourite bob song is the demo of I'll keep it with mine (a song he gave to nico) on that 3 disc compilation from the 90s? I forget the name of it. I'm a long time bob fan and happen to love most of his voices up until recently. I do think people assign import and meaning to lot of his blonde on blonde era lyrics that just isn't there though. Desolation row and visions of johanna always felt self Indulgant, meaningless and overly revered to me. My favourite dylan stuff is more low key, percy's song, song for woody Guthrie, I'll be your baby tonight, lay lady lay, don't think twice it's alright, love minus zero... Just breathtaking Genius. I love bob but will never defend him to non bob believers. I never saw the point. Happy birthday bob you funny, awkward, splendid old scrote! X

yeah. i like it too, cause some of his eras were amazing and all have their merit. but we're better off having the range than had he stuck with one of the styles, even one of the stronger ones. he may be an individual mammal but i feel his artisitic output is of greater value than some whole eras of whole civilisations

repped. although i enjoy the self indulgent desolation row and don't agree about johanna.

hahaha
I've never really gotten into Dylan, (too busy listening to The Beatles, Zeppelin and Ray Charles at Uni), and in my gig photographer day I saw him headline the Fleadh festival in 2004, and it was one of his "bad' gigs. I wanted to be impressed, but all I got was some old fart playing blues jams that I could see in any pub. No-one could work out what he was mumbling, and he didn't play any of his hits. So I've never really made an effort. I own his greatest hits, and my best mate loves him, but he just does nothing for me.
unfortunate that his voice is no good recently (IMO, it may be to some people's taste) because he had a fantastic singing voice for most of his career. more accurately two or three fantastic singing voices.

Dylan is one the most famous of all Wiggle fans, next to Bruce Forsyth.
