This is silly, we still have less than 50 members logging miles, and we're @ 55 team members and in the top bracket.
Let's go back to the sub 50 bracket and win that? We're shooting ourselves in the foot by competing with 49 in the 50+ bracket.
So who do you cull? Do you have a crystal ball so you know who is going to log miles over the next couple of weeks? For all you know one of those non posters might be about to go on a cycle tour and add a thousand miles on to their log. As I said above, if you are going to cull, do it just before the end when you know who to cull. And yeah, of course we aren't the only people thinking that, so just what is the point?
Edit: Which the biking bankers have just done.

logged some miles. 5 miles gives me 25 points, but 6 miles gives 60. I don't understand their system.

To encourage beginners to give cycling a go, more points can be earned for the first 24 miles.
Miles cycled Points earned per mile
0 – 24 10
25 – 49 5
50+ 2hmm?

ooh, from t&c's:
TfL accepts all liability required by law but is not responsible in any other way for losses which you may incur due to participating in the challenge;
interesting.

The first miles give your more points, as its meant to get people cycling more.
Also, I saw on the bike radar thread that you cabt remove members, so everyone can stop talking about culling.

^^ Interesting. So someone must have 'left' the Barclays Bankers team for them to have dropped back into the under 51 category. Good to know though.
Recruitment drive! We need those newbie miles!

We've got the fewest members of any of the top 4 in our category. Think the answer is adding more people, not trying to boot out the ones we've got, you sociopaths.

...you sociopaths.
busted.

Yes.
We now have 51 active members and there is no way I could countenance the culling of contributing comrades.

You need to get shootthebreeze on board. He's about to do LEJOG. And fatboyralph is Marmotting imminently.
I'll leave it to Laner to PM them, if he wants. Like a boss.

I am just going to add my agreement to the whole not culling members as has been pointed out we have fewer members in our team than any other team in the category, yet we are still in 4th place. Surely we can find people on the forum who do a predictable mileage every day on their commute to / from work, or training and if this is the case can they backdate their miles to the beginning of the competition?

Signed up and put in a request to get added to "the Team", which is pending. Plenty of miles to add. Thanks to Walm for the heads up....

Added first miles today. Who knew being a champion was so easy.
Time for a beer. Beer is, after all, the breakfast of champions.

My mileage record looks a bit dishonest.
I messed up the date attribution for the forum Avebury ride so that it appears I did that big mileage yesterday. Anyone seeing me fresh, with courier bag, sans bidon on Kings Road yesterday would know I was on a pootling commute. I've entered yesterday's pootle on the date omitted by my cack-handedness, mind.I'm quite enjoying estimating on a daily basis my mileage then verifying it against my cycle computer. Oddly I'd never tracked my distance on a daily basis before. I've usually only been interested after an intentional 'long ride' or otherwise as a cumulative total over several months- though several times this has been thwarted by computer fail and losing the darned thing down a drain.
Distance is only one measure of cycle usage, mind.

As for the recruitment / culling debate, I'm recruitment all the way.
Well done vungnu and Gussio. If beer is the drink of champions, any suggestions for the elite reward?

If everyone did 100 miles this weekend. We'd be first... If there was ever a time to flirt with the idea of a century, now would be that time.
-

It annoys me that although the competition runs for one month in 2011, you're still given the option of entering miles for any date between 1900 and 2050.

Or just get more members
Have I already failed my first test? :(
