  • What makes you say that they are cheating? Other than the fact they are bankers?

  • Other than the fact they are bankers?

    Answered your own question there...

They probably aren't cheating; I just don't like losing.

  • I wouldn't put it past them, I know quite a few guys who work for similar organisations and they are all uber competitive and would do pretty much anything to win any competition they enter. I just think that we should be careful about bandying around accusations of cheating, especially as our rivals can see what we are saying on the subject. Its not like that guy last year who claimed to have cycled to the moon on the first day of the competition.

  • Most people on our team haven't logged any of their miles yet, so i wouldn't worry.

apparently i've done the most miles in the team so far :)
    (won't last long)

  • double miles should be awarded for any done on a cycle hire bike...

  • ^^ we definitely need some people who do bigger mileages involved. I shall make suggestions to a few likely contenders...

I'd forgotten to log any, and I don't think I did any riding over the weekend, but I've just logged 139 miles in three trips for Monday :)

you can log miles retrospectively. maybe you do know this and I misunderstood. Anyway, for the sake of clarity and at the expense of brevity.

  • So far I'm a non contributing member because I did something to my ankle while out running a couple of weeks ago. I'm hoping to get on the bike again this weekend, but we'll have to see. My mileages aren't going to be great for a while yet.

  • Join barclays bankers then

  • I'm enjoying this cycle challenge. I did my regular communt, 18 miles each way. I need to go to the supermarket which is 2 miles each way. I would normally hop in the car but I think that I may put a big ricksack on and cycle there instead.

  • My girlfriend is starting to worry about me after I extended my commute home by 6 miles, apparently this is not normal behaviour, and she laughs at me when I tell her she doesn't understand.

  • went to supermarket and back on bike, another 4 miles added!!!

  • What happened to last years vouchers?!

where did you go on Monday that took you 110 miles?!

  • i'm cycling part of the way to Glasto on Friday - will rack up a few west country miles...

  • I'm out of action 'til Sunday at least (WUTM should generate 50+miles). Bust my groin, probably due to inactivity.

  • Anyone else up for Richmond Park cycle challenge booster laps on Saturday mornings? Couple of laps then some cup cakes in true Cycle challenge style!

  • Yes

  • Which way clockwise / anti? Also is there not some kinda rule about having to wear Lycra if you do laps?

  • Pretty sure that there is a lot of cheating occurring here. Barclays and UBS seem to be in a competition to out bullshit each other, not to mention the fact the team who is winning the 1- 50 category is 1 guy who has cycled 3319 miles in 5 days an average speed of 27.5 mph IF he has cycled 24 hrs a day for 5 strait days, maybe he could start coaching hippy!

  • You can log future miles. If you they got a regular commute maybe they just did the lot in one go.

he UBS team name is so sad.

  • I recommend we "redefine" a mile to use the Roman system:

    Roman mile

The Romans were first to use a unit of long distance mille passuum (literally "a thousand paces" in Latin, each pace being two steps). It denoted a distance of 1,000 paces or 5,000 Roman feet, and is estimated to be about 1,479 metres (1,617 yards). This unit is now known as the Roman mile.

This would increase our total by 10% -.-

Still not as effective as a "Barclays" mile.....

  • where did you go on Monday that took you 110 miles?!

Avebury for the solstice overnight... My total for that ride was 130, but I'd done 9 or something earlier on so 139 (fixed) for the day :)

  • you can log miles retrospectively. maybe you do know this and I misunderstood. Anyway, for the sake of clarity and at the expense of brevity.

I did know that ;) The problem was I hardly did any cycling over the weekend, I checked and it was 4 miles, which I logged for the sake of completeness...

So far I'm a non contributing member because I did something to my ankle while out running a couple of weeks ago. I'm hoping to get on the bike again this weekend, but we'll have to see. My mileages aren't going to be great for a while yet.

You get the most points for the first few miles, so don't worry if you're not doing big mileages, join anyway!

  • Are the badges based on your average or your total? Bit sad that it only takes a few days of cycling to become a "cycling champion"!

Real shame that the Dunwich Dynamo falls outside the dates (as someone mentioned previously)

  • I too am suspicious of the UBS and Barclays teams. But seeing that a lot of the lfgss team miles will be on fixed gear we will have the moral high groung - those bankers will have freewheeled a lot more than us...
