It could be the excuse I needed to purchase a pillar drill (and fret saw).
Are the cheap pillar drills from Wickes going to be as shit as I fear is the question.

Does anyone have any experience of 3D printing?
I have a small and pretty simple design I want made up in plastic. Has anyone ever used any companies in London to design and get built and know whether it is expensive or not. I'm sure I have passed somewhere on clerkenwell rd near Farringdon which does it. There also seems to be so e pretty amazing apps for it online but do you think it's something which can be done with reasonable computer skills but no 3d modelling experience?

I knew I had seen a thread but when I searched 3d printing nothing came up and no alternative threads where suggested when I put the title in. Therefore you and Velocio should be banned for 2 weeks. Anyway, will have a read.

I don't write the search, I use it.
If you search for "3d printing" it's the first thread.

^ interessant.
I have used Materialise several times - they seem to work out the cheapest for architectural/product modelling. I'd love to start designing and printing more functional stuff though.

I am curious as to why 3d printing of spec frames isn't happening? Even if 3D printing isn't cheap yet there should be room for some profits within the £100 - 300 price range that most half decent frames cost?
I just paid that kind of money for a frame. Not because I can really afford it but because they were the only ones that remotely fitted me. And still, those were only OK, not a great fit. I reckon I could spend over £350 for a 3D printed pair that were modelled and optimised for my rugged good looks.

Unfortunately my printer is kaput at the moment, it's pretty low on my priority list but I should get round to fixig it at some point.
I have some 10mm acrylic sheet if you've got a fret saw, a drill and a file, probably wouldn't take too long.
