Battersea Park is the number one choice for next year at the moment.
Wow. I have always wanted to do an event in that park. It's not bad for Sth London. Next to the river, so at least you can see London.

battersea park looks savage. google maps makes it look like one hell of a venue.

Yes, it is fairly untamed, that part of London having only very recently been civilised.

When you cross the river battersea power station is going to eat your bike.

'savage', as in the london vernacular equivalent of 'wicked', or more north-america 'awesome'.

early July makes more sense than September imho. Any temp courts we build wont have floodlights - a midsummer tournament means an extra hour or two of sunlight in the evenings. But that open space in battersea would be great. Four courts! Maybe even more?!

has the lhbpa looked into flood-light hire?
-
• #637
It never works as well as you'd think, causes noise pollution (a little even with a "silent diesel" one), flags the event for further fire/safety checks, etc. But yeah, I'll look into it if needed, it would be good to have power next year, etc.
Also, going on later each day is a nightmare from a packing up/site dress down/causing a nuisance point of view anyway, but this conversation can continue in the LHBPA planning thread, no need for it here.

Thank you all so much for your kind comments.
I have added 5 or 6 that slipped through the net to the end of the set.
I had almost forgotten how much I love polo. Work permitting I hope to see you all a lot more often again. -

Just please don't schedule it to coincide with the Olympics?

Ferries still travel the Atlantic but I'm guessing are always £££s
-
• #645
The opposite, you can get very cheap travel across the Atlantic by boat, but it takes about 2 months.

God, I knew I was going to get asked questions aboutthis I couldn't answer.
Quebec to Norway I think, my dad may have exaggerated the time (or I might have... Probably we both did) basically he got a lift on a tanker, they usually have a room or two that they rent as long as you don't mind eating shit food with the crew and having very little to do for a long time.I can check my facts if you really care?

A mate of mine did this a few years ago, and IIRC, he said that transit time depends on sea conditions, ie if the swell (or whatever it is) is against the boat, it can sometimes take a lot longer than normal to get across.
However, I think the record is around 4 days, and anything over a couple of weeks is pretty slow, so if it really did take a couple of months, I would guess Louis must have been on one of those low-tech boats, you know, the flat ones that don't have any sides?
What's the word? Craft?
