Can one of the new players who needs a bike and is playing in the league take that bike and keep it in their house? IIRC beagle was good enough to donate it, so it should be looked after, is leaving it in the cafe all the time a good idea?
the bike was taken to the cafe as noone else was able to take it to look after it! It was either that or being locked on a tree!
Anyway! The bike is now with Fran - she took it after polo today (and has told everyone there that she was taking it) -

OK so now we've got this back, it needs a lot of work:
- Front wheel needs truing.
- Back wheel needs six or seven spokes, and then truing.
- Headset (threadless) needs serious servicing or replacing
- Gearing needs to be dropped, a 22t standard freewheel for the back would be best.
- Brake cables and housing need replacing.
- New brake pads.
I have a spare road front wheel, but it wouldnt stand up well to much polo, so I'll try and true the existing front. Might have replacement brake components too.
But the back wheel needs spoke replacements or it'll collapse.
And the headset is in rag order, I dont know enough about threadless to service it.If anyone has any parts knocking around they can donate, that would be great.

Adding to what Kev has said, I'm going to be building up another loaner.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/62748333@N02/8120016682/in/photostreamI'm pretty sure it's elguapo's old frame. I tried it out once before the collarbone incident, it seemed to ride pretty well. Parts that are needed for it are:
-Wheels (26" front and 700c rear), I've got tyres for it already
-BB and chainset to match
-Freewheel (to give ~40 inch gear with above chainset)
-Wheelcovers
-London Odyssey Mod or similar, I have a lever that can be used.
-Chain
-Bar endsEverything else I've got (I think).
If anyone has any of the above that they aren't using, or feel like donating something to get either loaner rolling, then just post here or send me or Kev a PM. Loaners are really, really useful in getting new people to start playing, so having a few to hand would be great for beginners sessions, tournaments, demos etc. Please give generously!

Sweet, I'll be coming up to Newington for the Halloween thing, so if you're going could you bring it along?

That's brilliant, again I could pick these up at Newington at the weekend if you're in attendance. If not, we can work something else out.

I've got a terrible 26" front wheel you can have. It's not 48h or fancy but it'll roll.

Will try and swing by on Sunday

The loaner at my place could do with some new handlebars. The ones on it are too narrow.

• #115
I have a bunch of crappy bars kev... Risers or flats?
-
• #116
Flats are good. You coming next Monday?

Cheers, if I'm not there when you get there then leave it with someone, I'll be turning up around 2-3 hopefully.

Not sure. Kids a bit unwell, if he's not better by Monday then no... Otherwise yes.

Sorry, missed this earlier. As long as it's got most of it's spokes and isn't entirely made of cheese, then that would be great too. Again, I'll be at the Halloween thing so if you could manage to lug it down there I would gladly take it off your hands.

After some emergency surgery this evening, happy to report the patient is doing alright. Still needs a lot of aftercare though.
- Headset setup is now a frankenstein botch job of threaded and threadless, but a lot smoother than previously. Existing bearings were destroyed.
- New fork with v brakes.
- Front brake only. Existing lever was fucked, and the back brake was more or less dead.
- Different front wheel, True enough, but hub is scratchy.
- I bought a cheap 22t freewheel for it which I'll install when it arrives, and replace the chain.
The back wheel is really dodgy. Needs six or seven spokes. Something doesnt look right with the hub on the non drive side either. I'll deal with it over the weekend. Should be alright though for next week, hopefully. Need to sleep now.

Good job and rep for the massive map of London using free cycle maps...
-
• #122
Heh. Yeah I was opposed to that at first, it takes up an entire wall of the sitting room, but its well useful.
-
• #123
Oh should I be repping your missus[*]? Will do.
You must have high ceilings or missed out north London, I made one and it had to be hung in the stairway as it was about 2 floors high.
-
• #124
Its an older house so the ceiling is a bit higher, but nothing excessive. Every borough covered though from south to north, all the maps are on there.

Sorry I didn't make it on Sunday. Will put the stuff in my bag. Sure we can coordinate. Email or text is better than on here.
No worries kev. I agreed to keep it at LMNH as we could not find someone to keep the bike for NE beginners duty. Will soon make its way back to NE beginners.
