Wow. Both the Weekend performance of Butterfly are standing room only already, and there are no full boxes left for the (opening) Friday night.
That escalated quickly.

Alex just bagged a couple of standing tickets for the 29th. That's all that was available for the Sunday.

Some Opera news:
8 year old mini mashton daughter went to the ENO as a class trip to see the Merry Widow a fortnight ago. She loved it, as did most of her class. So cool.
I went there last night for The Magic Flute. Very enjoyable and inventive staging and lovely music. Signing was a mixed bag but in general a great night out.
Mrs Mashton and I are back there next week to see the Jack the Ripper thing. It has mixed reviews. I will report back.
(I realise I am probably talking to myself here)

This forum never ceases to amaze me :) It’s been too long since I went to the opera (used to go fairly often when I was in Paris), still listen to them though. I could do with seeing Die Zauberflöte again!

You'll love it if we ever do the Forum Cycle to Glyndebourne trip again. A wonderful day out!

Took the (now) wife to see that after I proposed :)
I too am pleasantly surprised at the forum. Good to find this thread , as a couple of times in the past I've had tickets I literally couldn't give away after not being able to make it for one reason or another.
Never terribly expensive, but decent. Upper Slips 4 lyfe.

Yes please!

Phew! Just emerged from Birtwhistle’s Mask of Orpheus at ENO. Totally bonkers and dark.

Another month, another opera - Philip Glass’s Orphée. Sublime and mad.

I went a week last friday with the nipper (his ticket was free!). We watched the Cocteau film as homework.
Thought the staging was ace. Music sublime. Singing was a load of tosh. I have discovered I pretty much hate opera as well as musicals.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the film now, it looked as though the costumes and styling of this production was very close to the look of the film.

Was re-released by bfi recently, DVD cost me about a tenner. Excellent!

I have ine adult and one U18 ticket for Carmen at the ENO this Saturday, that I can no longer use.
£37 for the pair, face value.
Would anyone like them?
-
• #221
Ah yes please. One at least. Perhaps you prefer to shift the pair though. Will PM.
edit - didn't realize one was U18. I don't think I'll be able to find a take for this one!

Oh dear. We had tickets for the ENO La Boheme at Ally Pally today. Drove the 50 miles there only to find it was cancelled due to the wind. Drove 50 miles back home and have just watched a recording of Wednesday night’s performance on Now TV. I don’t like Puccini but the valiant effort to resuscitate live music was enough to bring a tear to my eye. I do hope live theatre, music and opera make it through.

If anyone is at a loose end this weekend, and wants to support some grass roots, DIY, socially distanced professional music making, please have a look at Baroquestock in Hampstead
Beethoven, Haydn, Rameau, Bach, Telemann -

Thanks for the heads-up, will check it out!

Quite stocked about this, haven't been to a gig of any kind since February.
"You are currently position 73 in the queue".
From what I can tell, 29th October is the only weekend date for Butterfly. Which probably makes the discussion on dates a bit easier.
