  • There’s 3 more weeks of school in London before the holidays.

  • sometimes the "posh schools" finish for summer earlier than state schools. might account for less 4x4 wanker action?

    #jokingnotjoking

i was just thinking on my commute this morning how nice it's going to be in a couple of weeks when the local schools break up.

  • Maybe people looking forward to their booked holiday?

Or just coincidence and normal aggro drive resumes tomorrow.

  • First commute in 4 years today.

Herne Hill to Baron's Court. Went via Clapham, Battersea Park, Brompton Cemetery (closed) and Margravine Cemetery (open).

Came home via London bridge, taking in some Chelsea, Hyde Park Corner, Mall, Embankment and Blackfriars Bridge action. Great to have my daily dose of sightseeing again.

So good to be back in the game.

  • The journey home today was a litany of close passes with an attempted left hook thrown in for good measure so I guess balance is restored to the universe

  • I’m saddened by this news.

  • That looks rather lovely.
    Where is it, please?

  • I’m saddened by this news.

    How so?

  • sometimes the "posh schools" finish for summer earlier than state schools

Only know of a couple of international schools that have already finished. Almost all of the private schools in SW15/SW19 areas haven't broken up yet. Some finish end of this week, some the next.

Wandsworth's Primaries last day is on Tuesday the 24th although many will take a couple of INSET days to move that to Friday 19th July.

GCSEs and A-Levels are pretty much done now so families without children in other years may be relying on that to sneak off early too.

  • Because I think it’s important that more men take career breaks and become the primary carer for their kids and I held you up as a great example.

It also makes me feel old as this must mean your son is now old enough to be in full time education.

  • Ah yes. I see. Thanks!

Yep, he's four this month and starts in reception in September.

  • Glad it's not (just) to do with me being a menace on the roads!

  • Saw someone launch themselves into a stationary car as the lights changed yesterday evening. I think the rider expected the car to clear the junction but then the driver saw him approach & decided to stay put. Ended up colliding at about walking pace. Quite funny really.

  • Tailwind home on Milkwood last night... getting a lottery ticket this week fer sure.

  • Tried out an alternative route home tonight, along the tow path instead of the roads. Hoping to find a route that is child-carrying friendly for on my cargo bike. Too many gates to get through, unfortunately, but it was a stunning ride. Mostly rough gravel paths with a few bits of off road.

I’ll do it again, just not on a 35 year old Russian track bike with 20c tyres.

  • particularly on the astra vans it would seem...

  • Congratulations and a job well done I think.
I always wondered how you managed tondo more than just the grind work.

  • Another morning, another mildly confused @SwissChap on a Cervelo on Putney Hill.

  • Only mildly confused this time though! Good to see you around :)

Thanks buddy. It is beginning to feel like a new dawn. Let's see how it pans out.

I have spent a couple of days writing a proposal for some work that would start a proper in September. I hope it comes through.

If it does, I'll be commuting to Baron's Court three days a week. Come on winter riding, let's have you!

  • The roads around Bristol Temple Meads are such a cluster fuck. Roadworks for well over a year. Not helped by the usual idiocy of drivers. Outside the entrance/exit is a very large yellow box but every fucker ignores it. This morning it was particularly impressive. In the outside lane there was a queue of traffic meaning the exit wasn't clear which didn't stop a lady in a posh Audi stopping literally halfway across. The inner lane was clear, but for some reason someone in a small red car thought it great idea to enter the yellow box, but then try to get into the outside lane by waiting behind the Audi. Then a very large HGV attempted to get around the red car on the inside lane as he was straddling both lanes.

And then the lights change. Me and my commute buddy were at the front, I set off and signaled to the lorry to stop as he was still creeping past the red car. I signaled my exasperation to the lady in the Audi about her monumentally shite driving. I didn't see it but apparently she gave Lucien behind me the finger.

Yellow boxes are there for a reason.

  • Yellow boxes are there for a reason.

Yeah well so are indicators but I can’t remember the last time I saw an Audi driver using them properly either.

  • As my old motorbike instructor used to say, “Indicators are just a courtesy signal. Think of how many rude cunts you meet on a daily basis and don’t expect those people to use them either.”
