  • How long is this ride likely to take with beer breaks etc?

  • ^^ taps is my flatmate. I'd come along to make sure she behaves, but unfortunately the afternoon's football takes precedence. Pint in it for CB if he makes it further up Ditchling than her (assuming he makes it that far of course).

  • Brun, i owe you a beer buddy! Bring a portable tv and come with!

There's a first time for everything...

  • Damn i'm out. Wanted to be in brighton to watch the game at 4.

  • great route, my first distance fixed ride, 107km total

    Tim's tips -
bib shorts are good. even in stealth mode (under civvies). I think they may be even more important when riding fixed because you can't stand up as easily to take a break on your gooch.
saddle mounted bottle cage is a good idea if your frame doesn't have mounts.
don't get lost in North downs like I did. even one extra loop means more pain! (i felt that extra 12k at the end)
72 GI was fine for the most part but meant walking the 2nd half of ditchling. gear down!
This gearing made me hate my heavy as fuck frame and wheels.

Route was great for the most part, only things to note the steep descent just before you cross the m25 has a lot of big stones on the road, brakeless riders in particular watch out. Also descent after Ardingly has some nasty potholes.

  • I remember that descent, did it on a road bike, was great :P pretty gravely tho

  • Looks like rain and thunderstorms on Sunday.

  • That descent is indeed great. I grin all of the way down it...at this time of year I'll probably have flies splatted on my teeth

  • Looks like rain and thunderstorms on Sunday.

    Bollocks.

  • Looks like rain and thunderstorms on Sunday.

    Majorly worried about this...

  • Its ok Scoot, you can ride in the dry void that I will cut through the air.

Bet it will barely rain at all. Wind forecast is looking better too.

Its going to be awesome! First one to to the top of the beacon is a knobhead for trying too hard...

  • Think I might wear my best lycra and come roadied to the eyeballs if it looks like rain. Both for my comfort and your viewing satisfaction (horror).

  • but you must do it fixed... Looks even better

  • stonehedge still rides freewheel. he's so ashamed of the fact however he never stops pedalling to give the illusion of fixed.

  • thats fine, as long as its no gears. I want him clad in lycra on a ss

  • I wish the lfgss jerseys would be here in time :(

    Bollocks.

    Majorly worried about this...

BBC currently saying light rainshowers in Ldn, no rain in Brighton. so you'll get more wet if you don't come on the ride!

  • Might have blocked LFGSS from my main site but not from this office!

    Fck the lot of you.

HB: Stop starting rumours that I'm a freewheeling pussy.

CB: No way that I'll be on gears on Sunday. This will be my first 50+ fixed ride and I'm really looking forward to it.

And in honour of CB, I shall wear my best bib shorts (the crotchless ones).

EDIT: No disrespect intended towards any freewheeling pussies who are coming along.

  • And in honour of CB, I shall wear my best bib shorts (the crotchless ones).

I think you're wearing them upside down.

  • Ill be riding kaalgat

  • hahaha...

    "Bare bum" = naked

  • there's much less offensive ways to stop people drafting you Iain.
