I ordered a pair yesterday, gonna be my race wheels.
DT Swiss 465 is better than Open Pro.

They are comfy on the road and seem to be built very well. I am currently brakless at the moment so i cannot comment on the surface.

How can you be currently brakeless at the moment? I can't even get it.

Good to hear all the positive reviews. I'm just waiting for the comment on the breaking surface before i buy them.

What do you wanna know about the braking surface? I bought black for my track bike, brakes will work fine but the black would fade to silver eventually if I use a brake.
And who added the 'hipster wheel' tag?! -

One of the best things is being able to buy the cheaper short valve inner tubes from decathlon.

And who added the 'hipster wheel' tag?!Dunno, they look very smooth, will they give enough stopping power to someone who's relying on the front brake? Will it work in the wet? If i deicde to use the wheels on my ss bike will i be able to stop the bike in the wet?

of course they fucking will, how do you think cyclist do in the past 100 years? it's only recently we have machined sidewall.
you'll be fine, it's more about the brake/brake pad than the rims.
-
• #110
I remember reading something here about some rigidas being smooth not very well machined therefore not giving enough stoping power.
Are you surprised that before forking out over 100£ on a rims i want to make sure that they'll be actually working the way i expect? -
• #111
It will work, just concentrate on getting a good pair of brakes as they make the biggest difference.
To be honest I can't really feel any difference between the machined sidewall and non-machined one.
There are so many claim to why we have it, some says it to reduced the braking noise, some says it's simply done to smooth out imperfection, and of course some says it's to improve braking performance.

I've been scouring the net for a 28 hole TB14, but haven't got any luck finding one reasonably. H+Son's online shop sells those, but 50$ shipping and over 22% import tax is an effective deterrent.
So, 28 spoke hole TB14s exist, but no-one seem to stock them. Any ideas where I might get one?

RE: 28H TB14s - I think BLB might be the importer - worth giving them a call and see if they can either special order you some; or wait until their next order...
-
• #115
tokyo fixed are an importer.
-
• #116
Yeah, I sent an e-mail to BLB a few hours ago. There's also a local shop here in Turku Finland, which imports H+Son goodies. Hopefully they might know what's the deal yo. Would be easier (and probably faster) if some web shop had the rim in stock, but none of them seem to.
edit: BLB had one. So that makes my 1st World problem solved.

Any idea what is the max size tyre you can get on these rims? Wanted to run 32s

Generally you can run those on 23mm rims, but I'd advised a little wider than that, as the flex isn't exactly nice with bigger tyres (although better than the standard 19.6mm* of the Open Pro, that wasn't particularly nice).
*AFAIK from the internet

Sheldon Brown.
Just to clarify, some rims are measured by exterior width rather than interior.
-
• #121
but it is the interior width that actually matters, what is the internal size for the rim in question?
Open Pro's are pretty narrow and I ran 35c tyres quite happily. Wider rims would be better as creates the correct profile for the tyre but it shouldn't actually cause any issues running a 32c on an Open Pro size rim.

Internal Rim Width, 17.5 mm
according to: http://thebikehubonline.com/product/hson-tb14-700c-32h-polished-rim-sku-rm4380-qc222.htm
Kinda pisses me off that the manufactures don't list it.

The sizing chart like Sheldon said, is more of a guideline, you can still run 23c on rims that wide, in fact it's pretty comfortable and were able to run a lower pressure than recommended (25c tyres on 25mm wide rims).

Have you bought your TB14s yet ed?

good place for starting;
Just finished building a new TB14 Wheelset laced to White Industries Hubs. Loving the grey hard ano finish.
