  • VINTAGE is the important bit. Are the pads so hard they've outlived bikes and riders?

    ;-)

  • thanks guys

  • got my pair of ago gray tb14. they are sluttish greenish gray. a lot more on the green side than a magic sup or old magic bullhorns. i thought they come more like the camp omegas, but they are not.

any one have had the same issue with them tb14 hard anode gray ?

  • The pair I saw had a tone more like an old Mavic gray, like in a MA40 rim. More the color of clay than green.

  • Now you mention it mine do seem to have a slight green tinge. I wouldn't call them sluttish, though - maybe just a bit tarty.

  • Ive been training on tb14's at an outdoor velodrome, very happy with them. perfectly round and no they dont flex, Im 18.5 stone and Id notice during sprints. being a 14mm high box rim it might show signs of flexing prebuilt but thats just the nature of the design, once spokes are brought up to correct tension they are plenty stiff.

Araya njs rims are lighter with similar low profile design and they flex more than tb14's, if you ever look at an ex keirin used hub youll notice the marks on the flanges from the spokes, they use very high tension to get the stiffness up which cause the spokes to cut into the metal.

Yup, the Tita Aces (pictured) are like cheese under duress- assuming the the eyelets don't get pulled out by the tension.

  • Hi there,

I've just joined this forum and thought I may as well chance my arm and put it out there that my wheels were robbed this evening...TB 14's with black mambo tyres / gum wall (brick lane cycles), hubs, shimano freewheel...as an aside the tyres are a nightmare to get off the rims, as the last guy said in a bike shop when I had to change a flat! I had broken all my tyre levers prior to this! This will mean that the little pr1ck who stole the set will sell them as stolen! Anyway, I'm wondering is there somewhere I can put out the word to this effect? I cannot afford another set of wheels for a good few weeks!

    Thanks in advance,

  • The stolen bikes thread might be a good start. Sorry to hear about the wheels.

  • Regarding these rims, I've had my black ano TB14s for a few hundred miles now and the front v-brake still honks like an absolute motherfucker.
Brake pads are Kool Stop Black inserts in Avid RW2 holders.
They were brand new at the same time as the rims. I've tried every angle for the pads, still loud as fuck.
Managed to get the rear brake quiet, but the pads on that brake are Shimano so perhaps that plays a part?

If anyone has any specific pad recommendations I'm all ears, otherwise I'll probably try Kool Stop Salmons.

Had the same issue with my Ano Archetypes, only cured by a couple of runs out in the wet. Seemed to take a layer of the ano, now stop on a sixpence
