• you for real, desperate dan?

• Do you wear a helmet?

• Elbow pads?

• only on weekends ;)

• Im going to buy one of these so I look bad-ass. People will say "look at that guy... he's throwing caution to the wind.. he's a free spirit.. he hates his kidneys"

Girls will love it. Their dads will hate it

• @ Hiplok team, what precautions have you made to make the chain safe to wear around your body? is the material surrounding the chain padded? If I were to cycle to work on an icy morning, whilst wearing your product, and fall off due to the ice, can you ensure that the chain wrapped around my body would not harm me any more then the floor as I hit it?

I am genuinely concerned about the safety of your customers, I am not a "blog Hero". I have experience of 2 people not able to cycle now due to falling onto a chain worn around the waist whilst cycling. I also do not need to see your product in the flesh to understand the potential dangers that the Hiplok has.

Do you think someone would have a case against you if they were to break their back due to falling onto the first "wearable lock"?

I look forward to your response.

Grow up and take some basic responsibility for your actions, if you think this bicycle lock is going to threaten your well being then I suggest you steer clear of it.

That sounds like a tacit admission that you are aware that the Hiplok has the very real potential to cause serious injury.

Idiot.

but "remuneration"

• Riding a bike on London streets is dangerous

No it's not. There are dangers, as there are with driving, walking or taking public transport but it is not dangerous. And there is so much you can do to mitigate the dangers of cycling in London.
As for the Hiplok: if you design and advertise a lock specifically to be worn around the hips while riding it seems reasonable to ask if that lock is likely to increase your chance of an injury if you come off the bike. Saying, oh well, its up to the individual if they want to wear the* hip* lock round their hips seems a weaselly response to me. Unless I have misunderstood and the pitch is purely to* hipsters. *
How can you bleat on about people taking responsibility for their choices if they do not have all the information they need to make an informed choice in the first place? Even when they have asked the manufacturer directly?
And if the manufacturer cannot provide that information and just says 'come and have a look at it' then....

maybe this could work out for them like cigarettes? soon you will only be able to buy them from under the counter at evans...

• still nothing about how good of an actual lock it is either. Which is the primary reason any lock should be bought.

• its up to the individual if they want to wear the hip lock round their hips

• am i the only one not getting the irony here??.. you are arguing over the dangers of a bike look on a forum dedicated to riding bikes that do not have proper brakes!!... bikes which are illegal in many countries. I would argue that there are far more newbies jumping on fixes and toasting themselves because they cant ride properly than there are people who fall and hurt themselves wearing (as many people all ready do) a chainlock.

this isn't a pop at fixies btw. i love them but a bit a bit of perspective wouldn't go a miss. i'm for any company who stands against the real enemy...........bike thieving scum

• still nothing about how good of an actual lock it is either. Which is the primary reason any lock should be bought.

I see where your coming from but... track bikes are sold as such. Until very recently jumping on a fixed gear and riding out the shop wasn't accessable. And you won't hear anyone on this forum advocating riding brakeless from day 1.

If a bike company produced an OTP brakeless fixed gear bike aimed at new riders they'd get fucking burned on here. And they rightly do.

• Your saying shit locks are a small problem compared to another problem.

:/

• its up to the individual if they want to wear the hip lock round their hips

Which is fine so long as they're awaire it might fuck 'em up, and not assuming that the product is safe.

• As for the Hiplok: if you design and advertise a lock specifically to be worn around the hips while riding it seems reasonable to ask if that lock is likely to increase your chance of an injury if you come off the bike.

This.

I find it fucking astounding that people are actually effectively saying htfu, take responsibly for your actions, it's your choice if you wear it, etc.

If you market a product for a specific use, which then increases the danger to the consumer you are fucking retarded, irresponsible, and leaving yourself (rightly) wide open to litigation.

And on top of that, when the seller/designer/whatever of this product is asked directly about the safety they dodge the fucking issue.

@ hiplock - if you haven't already taken legal advice on this, I suggest you withdraw the product from circulation asap and then seek some. At least that way you will have someone to sue when you're are.

• It is fantastic that such a new member of our community feels welcome to express him/herself so openly on the forum. We often get a bad rep for being like a boys changing room with endless digs and snide remarks. Boardmonkey has shown us all here today that a member only 12 hours old feels comfortable and confident to communicate his/her opinions on the forum.

Either that or Boardmonkey has a vested interest in the product as he/she has also not posted in welcome, names and faces to bikes, etc. I wonder?

• Conspiracy theory!

For what it's worth I think it's a great idea. I hope it works out.

Maybe that buckle needs to be re-designed to be flatter / softer edged to make it safe.

• its up to the individual if they want to wear the hip lock round their hips

Hi, I know it's a bad idea to wear a normal chain lock round your waist, or a d-lock on your belt or in your pocket, and I know they're not really designed to be carried that way, but I noticed you'd designed a chain lock that is specifically meant to go on the hips. Can you tell me, might it still injure me if I fell off and landed on it?

Er, it's up to you whether or not you wear our lock, which is designed to go round the hips, on your hips

Yeh, I know it's up to me if I use the lock in the way you designed it to be used, I am just wondering, you know, have you tested it at all? Like, do you know if it will still injure me the way another lock would do?

Well, it's up to you if you wear the hip lock on your hips.

So you're saying you don't know? I mean, it *might *injure me?

*It's your choice where you wear the hip lock.

*Why is your lawyer whispering in your ear? *

Feel free to come in and look at our hip lock that you can choose to wear on your hips, that choice being yours alone.
*

• So we're agreed then?
