• Rear wheel is laced, 680 grams.

  • Pictures? I love you and this thread Dammit...

  • I recently bought some chinese carbon forks and really pleased with them. The sizing on the inside of the steerer is a little odd as only 1 out of 3 expander bungs I tried fitted but that's my only gripe. 19 days from payment to arrival including weekends. They're bloody light too.

  • my friends ones were fine with a planet x bung, the outside of the steer tube was tight though, also had to sand it down as it had quite bad flash

  • I used an M:Part one in the end. Mine didn't need any sanding, although I did chop it wonky.

  • No pictures, will chuck some up when the wheels are done.

680 for the rear, not sure what the front is going to weigh- around 450 maybe?

When I've stopped eating dinner I can probably work it out.

Around 1,100 for the wheelset I think at this stage.

  • although I did chop it wonky.

yeah same, but sanded it flat. I've got to say though they send him the wrong ones the ones he got were very nice indeed.

  • So, 70g for the front hub, 320g for the rim and then whatever 20 259mm Sapim Race spokes weigh.

The rear was 320 for the rim, 200 for the hub, 520, so 160g for spokes and nipples, does that sound right?

That would mean that the front would be 390 for hub and rim, plus about 130 for the spokes and nipples, so 520.

1,200 all in, in that case, just about dead on.

200g less than the EA90 SLX that are on there right now.

I am very excited to try the new wheels out.

  • 120g for 20 spokes alone (5.95g each at 260mm). not sure what nips youre using.
70/200 is a pretty respectable weight for the hubs. Any lower and your in mega buck WW territory.
These are going to feel soooo fast.

  • Wait. How are you going to attach them to your bike?

Get some quick release weights in there.

  • Reckon my weight prediction is about right?

I wonder how the tubs (Vittoria 320TPI) are going to compare to the clinchers (Vittoria Open Corsa with latex tubes)

  • I quick calc gives me 1099.2g for the pair (with QRs). But thats with 24 alu nipples.

Most of the weight saving is in the light rims. So they will feel seriously light.

Sumo I'm based in Beijing and have been looking at getting some carbon forks. Which supplier did you use and are you happy with the forks?

In terms of finding other suppliers in China there are a few websites that are basically run by the same company. I know some people might know alibaba but try using aliexpress as often they will ship items for free if its only a small order.

Alibaba the biggest and mainly deal with b2b custom

Aliexpress which mainly does international b2c but also b2b

Taoabo China's number one web based shopping site. Its all in Chinese but using google chrome you can translate the pages. It will also recognise a lot of English search terms.

Other than forks I'm looking at some cycling helmets but obviously I'm a bit wary about quality and standards. These seem to be copies of catlike or maybe even from the same factory.

  • I got my rims from www.farsports.cn if that helps, they seem to be good people to deal with (so far!)

  • That handlebar look quite interesting;

Thanks will drop them an email as I can't seem to find any forks on their website.

  • That handlebar look quite interesting;

The ergo top is cool n all. But the curve is a bit poo.
I was tempted by these. Although they aint so cheap.

    Will i die using these?

I need some new forks on the Bowery, these seem cheap, maybe too cheap?
    £45 seems mad cheap.

  • If you can't find anything written about them, then you are probably better off getting a used carbon kinesis. Cost probably a bit more and have not heard of breakage so far. They are quite light as well with a cromoly steerer but not quite a light as a full carbon. I have been using one for the last couple of year and no problems so far.

  • I have those exact forks. Couldn't find a flaw in them and they're very light. Only thing is the inside of the steerer is very slightly smaller than normal, so I tried a couple of expanding bungs that the third one did. Took 19 days from payment to delivery and didn't get charged by customs.

  • Cheers Sumo, I assume they can take a brake?

  • they can and do
