• need an easton sticker, make it look replica.

    ftfy.

  • How are people thinking about these?

Also any 80+kg guys riding them?

...or 100+kg? Is it possible to get the 50mm 23c as 32h?

  • The 50mm version of mine (above) are listed as for riders up to 110kg, I'd guess that's conservative, at 20/24, but I'd go for a crossing pattern on the front rather than radial.

  • Is there a consensus yet for how much it costs for a 23mm wide 50mm carbon rim inc. shipping to the UK?

I wonder if it'd be possible for them to lace the 50mm version to lo-flange Novatec hubs. Did you have to re-lace, nipple-wrench like crazy or anything of that nature to the spokes when yours arrived?

110 is quite alright but I'm a fat fark (trying to shed the excess weight by doing heavy lifting, eating lean and building bikes.).

Through Farsports, $171.50USD each plus costs below. That's for a clincher.

  • What was customs like?

  • What was customs like?

Free as they were listed as 'samples' ;)

  • CN Carbon list 23x50 tubs @ £190 incl postage and £220 for clinchers. At those prices you might as well buy complete wheels. Bargain to be hit for £28 for customs clearance like I was and you might get lucky and get away with it.

You could ask after the lo-flange Novatecs (I'm guessing you mean track), CN Carbon will custom build if they have them or can get them. If you mean road, lo-flange Novatecs are standard.

I haven't ridden the track wheels yet, and won't for at least a week as I crashed and minced my right hand yesterday. They feel perfectly evenly tensioned and are dead true, with the strong 23mm rims I don't anticipate problems. The 38x20.5 tubs I got from Carbonwheels 2011 (Carbon Wheels Express on Ebay) did need some tweaking, but they are MUCH lighter. Either way, if it costs £15 to have them trued and re-tensioned, who cares at these prices? They've done over 1,000 miles trouble-free since.

  • PS: building bikes does not count as regular strenuous exercise nor as one of your 'five a day', if it did I would be 60kg and very fit indeed.....

Cheers for the info! Yes, the novatec lo-flange track hubs was what I meant.

    Hehe

  • Has anyone bought a 5 spoke carbon clincher from any of these suppliers? Any suggestions? Thanks

  • For track or tarck?

  • CN Carbon list 23x50 tubs @ £190 incl postage and £220 for clinchers.

Any chance you could link me to CN carbon? Is it an ebay seller?

    Cheers!

  • CN Carbon are fleabay sellers, look at the first set of wheels with their name smeared all over them, then go to their online shop.

  • ^ Cheers Colin!

    tarck

  • Well, had to get caught sooner or later, 5th Chinese carbon delivery to date, these were wheels from CN Carbon. Until now I thought I had it sussed by getting deliveries to my studio, wrong! At least it's only £28....

Just learned a valuable 'Italian Lesson'. Customs here in Italy charge 48% (!!!) duty on all bike related goods coming from China (apparently to 'protect' all the honest hard working carbon fibre parts manufacturers that exist in this beautiful country). Anyway, on top of that the seller (arron-bike) declared the wheels were sold for over 100EUR more than I paid, then 22% VAT. I feel like I have been violated sexually and emotionally... Not sure whether to send the bastard things back and ruin the plans for my new build, or just pay the cash and end up not being able to look at my really expensive cheap Chinese wheels (which will probably fall apart on account of their cheapness when i am doing 80kph down a mountain) :-( I hate 2014 already.

  • But at least you have fabulous scenery, proper mountains, superb food and great weather (except when the Giro is on). Get the Mafia to put a hit on a minor tax official, it'll make you feel better.

When you put it like that, my life doesn't seem so bad :-) I will just stop buying expensive wine for a few weeks and it should pay for the wheels. I think the tax officials are the mafia, so I am a bit stuck on that score, but will definitely get the triads on the case with the supplier though...

  • Sweet. Just got my 2014 shape Farsport 38mm tubs. £363.91 to my door. No taxes or duty paid.

    Tidy.

  • Obviously its personal preference but glossy or matte for crabon rims? What looks better?

  • Depends on the bike I guess. My Scott was very glossy so I went for 3K gloss finish. Matt bike, matt wheels? Up to you.

Beauty is in the eye of LFGSS, as the saying goes.

    Erm. What do you think?

    There's your answer then.
