Don't pretend like you can't afford Zipps.

Some 32, 3x wheels based on Ambrossio nemesis, would be nice.
http://www.wheelsmith.co.uk/wheelprices.htmI've got 7800 series Dura Ace hubs laced three cross onto Open Pro CD's, 32H.
Hopefully they'll put up with 75kg of me and 5kg of bike over the Pave

I rode Open Pros over Roubaix and that was more like 90kg+15kg
I do have mad cobble skillz though.
-
• #1255
=They'll be fine then, my 15kg weight advantage is hopefully enough to make up for my lack of mad cobble skillz.
-
• #1256
Are you suggesting I have a lack of self awareness?
Cheeky.
:D

BTW, were you riding a dutch bike?
-
• #1258
take it you won't be riding carbon tubs for Roubaix?!
apparently they used to use Zipp 440's for Paris-Roubaix. Not sure Taiwan's finest compare to them though.

Zipp were pushing for their wheels to be used in PR for years and years, as the gain from having someone win/podium riding them would be immense to them, but IIRC it's only recently that the wheels have actually made it to the end of the race
(based on overheard, half remmebered, ramblings. could be making this up) -

I guess as the carbon v rims get wider they're becoming a better option for cobbles.
-
• #1261
hmm, hed should have been adopted a while back then.
-
• #1262
IIRC most of the riders were riding 30-50mm carbon rims this year.
I'll see if I can find any footage...
There is a shot here, at 30 secs in.

^303s not 440
Fabs won on them

(based on overheard, half remmebered, ramblings. could be making this up)I seem to remember cervelo using zipp, and somewhat regretting it.
Re: carbon rims getting wider. MTB'rs have been seeing the benifits of wider rims relative to their tyres for years. Why does a high profile cycle sport like road racing continuosly follow in mountian bikings footsteps?

Roadies have more gears.

440's are the late 90's ones remember. 404's are the current ones.
-
• #1267
I dunno. Modern MTBs have 20. I have 22 on the roadie.
Bugger ninja edit.

By 'we' I meant roadies... then realised that wasn't clear.
You thought I was a mountain biker ??? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Offended !!!

I have wanted a set of 303s for cross ever since watching this:
Zipp 303 Impact Testing - YouTube
They had a cut-away view of the rim on a pezcycling review a while back, amazing how thin the sidewall gets. It would be interesting to see a cut-away of one of the cheapies if anyone here ever scraps one. They first link has good pictures of firecrest and old 303s, the second has some Zipp tech stuff halfway down.

Do I look like scoble to you? It was an approximation. How much does a Ribble Audax weigh with two bottles and spares stuck to it?

Who's "they"?
I assume you mean pros.
Pros don't pay for their wheels.
I have seen amateurs smashing over cobbles on deep carbon wheels at the Ronde. More money than sense.

nuff 50mm carbon clinchers on training rides this winter... what's that all about? I thought we were in recession?
-
• #1274
my crabon arrived today. 5 days from china to my doorstep, no customs vat charge either. Will report later!
