Maybe a stupid question, but is the yellow from the brakes right?
-
• #1003
Yep, that's used Swiss Stop Yellow, which is the carbon specific compound- and has been said, is designed to wear instead of the rim.
-
• #1004
Maybe get some cheap ones, glue some wet and dry to the blocs, and then ride with the brakes on until you have achieved an even finish.
-
• #1005
I've sent the pictures to Farsports and asked if this is standard.
To be honest it doesn't seem to have any detrimental affect on braking, which is the biggest concern, I do think that the pads are wearing fast- but then I have nothing to compare the wear rate with.
I'd prefer the brake track to be flat simply because I think it should be really.

you've now got a perfect finish with albeit an expensive filler. Just slap some emulsion over it and be done.

I've been using the Reynolds "Blue" brake pads which IMHO are more consistent (less grabby) at all speeds then the swiss stop yellow I used to have .. just my two pence
-
• #1008
I'll give them a go- and likely end up with green rims...
-
• #1009
Maybe the design is a cunning one- radial fins to shed the heat of the braking track?
I was actually thinking the same. Much like the holes in disc brake discs. I'll not start sanding valleys in to mine just yet though.

Noted.
Really wanted yellow though :(

Farsports responded to my email- initial reply indicates that they may replace both rims.

i've got a hankering for some chitanium
-
• #1013
You can't buy from their website though?
-
• #1014
I bet you can if you email them, but they sell it though alibaba

Bet thats fecking heavy. The tubes are rarely butted on these budget Ti frames. Making them heavier and dead feeling (no spring).
So I've read anyway.
I'm looking at (but cant afford) some custom Ti from Carver (still chitanium). Buying through a second party adds cost but adds a lot of buying power. Making sure you get a decent butting profile, that fits the size and use of the bike. Without that. Its like buying a Create, and saying its the same as a steel baum. Because the material is the same.

put some pretorius stickers on it and it gets its spring and magic ride back.

£530?
Better than a PX Carbon or a Condor Pista?
-
• #1020
true, i'd much prefer a condor and it comes with forks and a headset

Farsports got back to me:
Hi Neil,
Thanks for your pictures.
I will replace these two rims for you.
We have already improved the braking surface . I will show you some pictures later.Do you want to order some other rims also with this replacement rims?
So I can arrange them together.Hope hearing from you soon.
Regards.--Mae/Farsports.Excellent service in my view- given that they could have (via email) shrugged and said "yeah, whatevs".
So, I'll be getting a new pair of rims with the new and improved braking surface.
Does anyone want to get a set of rims given that I'm getting another box sent over from China?
You can have tubs or clinchers, 20mm/38mm/50mm/60mm/88mm, 3K/12K, and a choice of drillings.
-
• #1022
How much are they?
-
• #1023
I may be in for some 38's depending on prices
-
• #1024
The ones I have are not on the list, they were $158 each for 320 gram 50mm tubs
-
• #1025
xander and I were talking about splitting some rims the other day, how much do you think 38mm/50mm clinchers would be in total?
Braking from high speeds is consistent, and I have confidence in it.
It's at lower speeds that the brakes can be a bit grabby- especially when the pads are hot.
Maybe the design is a cunning one- radial fins to shed the heat of the braking track?
